Hi everyone,

I'm a rookie drone pilot, I just got the Mavic Air 2 last week and it's the first drone I've ever flown.

I've made a couple of videos so far just trying to learn how to fly it properly and I'd love to get some feedback (good or bad).
You can watch my latest video here:

What are some good resources that have helped you become a better pilot?

Thanks!

Hey Nolan, nice video, I am also just starting. What I learned so far is to watch all available videos for starters but most important: Just fly and try what works best for you.

Good job. I wonder what if you shoot the sunset with HDR video.

Thanks for the insight! The only way to get better is to practice!

I shot the first "sunset" video with HDR. But I agree, the second one that is completely overexposed would have looked better with HDR or proper exposure. lol

Nice video. Looks like you got fairly close to the trees following those bikes.

Yes, it was pretty close, you can't see it in the video but the drone stopped itself from getting much closer than that.

Nolan,
Awesome video!

Remember to register you as a hoobyist with the FAA and marked your drone with the certificate number. Since the MA2 weights more than 250g.

Nice video. You're sure that's your first time? Let's see: Watch youtubes, practice, watch youtubes, read try again, watch youtubes, read forums, and when you're in the field, you brain goes blank! Go to youtube and look for guys like Ken Heron, Remote Pilot 101, Ready Set Drone, Oz by Drone. There are LOTS more youtubers who teach.

"What are some good resources that have helped you become a better pilot?"

I almost hate to say it...but trial and error ;-)

Nothing teaches you faster and better than failure.

Lol yes, first time. I've been doing photography and videography for quite a while; so, I guess I have an "eye" for it. Thanks for the helpful info!

I'm hoping my first failure is not a costly one... lol I've already come close.

But thank you for the advice.

Here's a thought. Buy a cheap used Mini and just go for it. I have two banged up ones that are evidence of my drone education ;-) Fortunately I have found the MA2 to be very similar in operation....but way faster.

I played with and crashed cheap toy drones for a long time before I got a spark. Had a couple accidents with my spark, but haven't done her any real harm.

I guess the moral of the story is to keep on flying!

And even the cheap toy drones usually survive a crash.
