I have both a mavic air 2 and a mavic mini, I really like my MA2 controller over the MM controller, is this possible?

No. One uses a wifi connection and the Air uses Occusync 2.

That's like my asking why my BMW won't accelerate as fast as a Ferrari as they both have an engine! There is a reason the MA2 has an operating range three times further than the MM - they have different video transmission systems.
