My answer is "hell, no". In my experience, when using HDR the MA2 is trying to correctly expose for the darker areas by dropping the shutter speed. Dropping it way down, to 1/30 and generating an unusable amount of motion blur. The last thing you want to do is to help that process along by adding an ND filter. Keep in mind ND filters do not affect the way your image looks, you can't fix stuff you don't like in your image (like overexposed areas) by using an ND, you fix those by playing with the shutter speed and the ISO. NDs are used simply to bring down the shutter speed when it's too high, in order to obtain the cinematic motion blur.
The x in NDx is how many times you'll have to increase your shutter speed to get the same level of exposure with the ND filter on that you had with it off.
Example: getting correct exposure for a particular scene with no filter at ISO 100 and SS 1/640. Adding an ND8 means, in order to keep the image looking just as before, you need to go with ISO 100 and SS 1/80. |
