Hi there,

I want to show an example of image quality improvement for the MA2. I took a video at 4K with 50 fps. From that I took a sequence of 50 images and stacked them together.
The stacked result is the left picture, on the right one an original single image taken from the sequence is shown.

The stacking method should also give improved  images in low light situations. Need to try...

Greetings

It's an interesting concept but wouldn't it have been easier to push one button and go to photo mode and take a single picture???

It depends on the light conditions. Of course you could do that with photos as well. And they might have better quality in this scene situation.  It is most interesting for problematic low light scenes.
And from experience I know that you beat the cameras single image (also in photo mode) performance if you have a sufficient number of stackable images. For examples jpeg artifacts disappear, noise in general goes down. sometimes images even appear to be sharper since some features emerge which were under noise before.

For photos, just use 48MP mode. That already reduces noise by combining multiple images.

the same principle applies to 48mp images...

Now the lowlight situation:

I took a video with the MA2 in the night.  Video was recorded as 4K with 24 fps, 1/25 shutter speed and ISO 6400. I stacked a 100 image sequence from the video. Left is a single image, right is the stacked one... So the stacked image had a total exposure time of ca. 4.2 seconds....

If it can be done automatically by the drone itself then the Mavic air 2 Will become a huge upgrade

As Darth Vader said:  "Impressive, most impressive".
I was not familiar with the concept of stacking photos.  What software are you using to do that?  And how?

The software i used is self written but the stacking concept itself is used heavily in astro photography. A software for example would be pixinsight which can stack multiple frames, but im not sure if it can extract video frames... for video frame extraction you could use ffmpeg, which is free...

Thanks.  Now that you mention it, I have heard of the concept (but I don't think that term) related to astro photography.
