I was wondering why my MM doesn't have 5.8G?

It does have but could be country dependent

According to the specs for the Mini, there are two different controller models.
One has 5.8MHz and one doesn't
Model MR1SS5: 5.725-5.850 GHz
Model MR1SD25: 2.400-2.4835 GHz, 5.725-5.850 GHz

Yeah, I think it's banned in Russia, for example. Not sure about Malaysia though.

All these countries clamping down, I heard that there might be higher ranges of wifi channels being opened up soon though

No, my country did not impose technology restrictions so basically 5.8Ghz works..

Sorry this is probably not the place to post questions but I was wondering what's the distance I should be able to go on my fcc mm because I can't get past 900m out and 200m high in a wide open space and how many channels should you have on 5.8 I only have 4 new to all this

3000-4000 M should be easily achievable

Remember that you can only legally fly it as far as you can see it with the naked eye (with spectacles, if you wear them). I’d be surprised if you could still see it anywhere near 900m. Also, 200m is higher than the legal maximum height.

The altitude is based on the home point from where the drone takes off. If, for example, you take off from the bottom of a hill that is 350m high and fly up to 120m above the peak the drone will be 470m above your position but still legally only 120m AGL - that is why you should be able to fly these drones higher than 120m and have max altitude settings of 500m.

Minor detail  ;-)
250+120=470....
250+120=370

Minor detail repaired...350+120=470

sorry

the distance to the drone is the root of the sum of the height squared and the distance squared relative to the horizon

Regarding the frequency of 5.8 G, the country may be allowed to use, but there are restrictions on lifting the antenna, such as in Russia, 5.8 G can not fly above 5 meters and therefore DJI believes that 5.8 G is prohibited in Russia.

I understand that there will be special cases where the drone can legally fly more than 120m above it’s take off point. However, as the person I replied to said he was “new to this”, I thought it was worth pointing out the legal height restriction in open countryside.

For sure - but my point wasn't that the drone is allowed to fly higher than 120m AGL but the reason why the drone has a setting that enables it to fly higher than 120m - which is above the homepoint and not the ground

Only with FCC version, with CE only 500m on 5,8GHz or up to 2000m on 2.4GHz but only in rural unpolluted WIFI environment.
