The Mavic Air 2 has similar performance to the Pro but is only around 500g and falls under the A1 classification. You definitely are a flyer based on distance and I truly empathize with your EU situation. I test both out before buying the Air 2 and liked the size and performance of the Air 2 better than the Pro. I do not do professional work so the marginal camera quality difference was not really a factor for me. Often I think the camera differences are more situational and superiority of the Air 2 v Pro is entirely based on environment. If I had to have experienced a consistently better camera performance on the Pro that is the direction I would have gone. Also, the Air 2 is 18 months newer than the Pro and the technology to price and size gap from experience seem to be narrow.
The Air 2 is not CE C1 unfortunately.
But even when it was, I would have to get a certificate and do examinations.
So far it is unclear what that will cost (unless you take the expensive road of going for a course).
A <250g drone does not need this examinations, so that feels a bit more logic.
But there is one more thing. I have a feeling we are not ready with the final implementation of the new rules.
There will be a lot that is allowed for <250g drones (flying over buildings etc.) and somehow I suspect a lot of people will start complaining and we will get additional restrictions that will make flying harder.
I am not sure if it is worth it for me.
As much as I like flying, it is only for getting nice images for me.
So when I can't make nice images anymore because I have to fly far away from anything interesting, it is sad but not worth it.
But we will see where it goes from here. |
