The Albion Mill was built in 1859, in the cotton boom period in NW England.
In 1928, it was re-purposed, along with a number of other buildings, as a sweet factory.
Now one of the biggest manufacturers of kiddies' delights in the UK.
Just this week, I noticed that the original small Albion Mill is being demolished.
Unable to legally fly over for a look, I had to satisfy myself with a Zoom shot with the
Mavic 2 Zoom from 700 metres distance.  On a  hazy morning, the result isn't great,
but the yellow mechanical demolition machine can just be discerned on the rubble
behind the larger factory in the centre of the frame.
An archive still photo shows the mill as it was.

amazing shot! It is rare that they have authorized the demolition of a building with so much age. Historic?

thanks for sharing!

Hi QQ. Not the best shot I've ever taken, but the conditions were far from optimum. The mill had been derelict and empty for many years, as you can see from the archive photo. I think it had become dangerous and, being so close to a main road. safer to demolish it.

Unfortunately, another architectural piece of history being demolished.  Still a very nice shot from 700 meters away.

Thanks. Had it been a sunny day I reckon the shot would have been much crisper. The hazy mist diffuses the light.

Yes, the end of an era. But that part of the mill had been empty, boarded up and derelict for a long time. Apart from being an eyesore it was beginning to crumble and was considered dangerous so near a main road.

The British-English phrase (dark) satanic mills denotes industrial mills or factories—especially those of Britain in the nineteenth century—associated with harsh working conditions and regarded as representing exploitative and dehumanising industrialisation.  The phrase is also found as a line in the Hymn "Jerusalem".

I know how that goes, but I rather see somebody buy and restore it.
There is a lot of value in these buildings as how they define how a place 'feels'.
All this is lost when they replace it with something new.

I happened to be passing on my walk to the hills, and they had just reached the Capstone which read ALBION MILL 1859. I thought that might have been preserved for posterity, but down it came with all the rest.

Well, it WAS listing to one side - which is why it was demolished

Unofficially, yes.  Along with another contender, "Land of Hope and Glory". Both far more stirring than the dreary dirge they trot out at every occasion.
