Hello,

Although announced to have a 10km range, i get a RTH warning after about
1 - 1,2 km maximum. Wasn't the 10km misleading then?
Tested this in different situations, different locations. Always the same max, or should i say,
minimum, range. This is dissapointing, it really is.

Hi, djiuser_frRKtJdMuFjD. Thanks for reaching out! We're sorry to read about your experience. The smartphone clamp of the remote controller houses the antennas. Make sure that the antennas are pointed toward the aircraft. The signal between the aircraft and the remote controller is most reliable when the antennas are positioned in relation to the aircraft as depicted below.


Additionally, ensure you are not wearing any transmitting wearables, and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off on your mobile devices.

I get far more than that on my EU MA2

I already tried flying between 80-100 meters, but this does not change a thing.
What's new to try is indeed switching off the WIFI and BT from the iPhone.... but I'm not expecting miracles due to this.
This range is a real disappointment, especially as the announcement states 10km....
I was expecting 50% of what was promised, but I only get 10% or less.

What a shame!

after last firmware update my range has been dramatically dropped.
stock controller 1 - 1.3 km now, 3.5 km - before. same open area, same weather.
smart controller - 600 - 650 m in any area (including over the sea).

Put your phone in flight mode also ensure that there is no obstruction like trees etc blocking the RC transmission to the drone.

Hi,

had a look on the map. It looks to be a fairly congested area but not that it would cause such low range. As long as your doing everything right. ( as described by DJI Gamora's response) and still getting such horrible range, I would send it back if it's under warranty, for a new one.

Does turning Wifi and Bluetooth off make that big of a difference?  I just got my MA2 this week and took it out for its first flight today.  I haven't yet tested the range as I'm still getting used to the controls but I'll give it a try soon.  I was just wondering on the Wifi/BT suggestion.  Thanks!

10 KM is the maximum range under ideal conditions, it’s not a guaranteed range.

I fully agree, but if you buy a car, which is according the mfg able to go 160mph, and in reality, you only get 16mph..... what would you say???  This is exactly what i have, no?

It does. I used to have issues with range on my zoom and then realised that I had not turned on flight mode, put that on and no more issues but in saying that as well you must make sure the RC is in LOS with AC meaning no obstructions.

That's a flawed analogy because a car's maximum speed is very predictable and dependent on few factors (air density, tire friction, to some extend gasoline quality). If the manufacture claimed 160 MPH and you can't go over 80 MPH, you'd have a strong case.

Reaching the maximum range of a drone requires an unobstructed line of sight and a complete lack of interference from the environment. That means radio sources like Wifi networks, microwave ovens, cell phones, radio towers, high voltage power lines, the mobile device used with the controller and more.

Finally, you need to keep the antenna on the controller properly oriented towards the drone.

Given that the law requires you to maintain visual contact with the drone anyway, the range you're able to achieve should be more than adequate.
