.. a relatively new type of metro bus, the NexGen is dual mode, running either on overhead electric wires or battery.  Previous trolleys had minimal battery with a top speed of about 5 MPH with a range measured in feet (even less with a hill).  The NexGen is reported to have a top speed off the wire of 50 MPH and a 50 mile range (loaded).  
The transit authority recently upgraded the wire infrastructure and extended it.  With a fleet of traditional diesels, the trolleys give flexibility, cost savings and a leg up with future EV.

Interesting target

Interesting video.  Electric beats diesel for sure for sustainability.  Tesla bus, still in prototype, doesn't need wire infrastructure.
