I'm gonna be buying my first drone soon (possibly in December) and I was curious which drone should I buy. The Mini 2 (Mini 3 possibly) or the Air 2S/Air 2. I've had some prior experince of drone flights from toy drones but I'm scared of buying an expensive and big drone which might crash and I might lose my money. Should I just stick with the Mini series?

Hello there Alvara74. Good day and thank you for choosing DJI. I will post a link where in you can compare the DJI Air 2S, to the DJI Mavic Air 2 and to the DJI Mini 2 and to other DJI consumer drones as well ( https://www.dji.com/products/com ... ndsite&from=nav ). Thank you for supporting DJI and keep flying.

Due to the EASA classifications that are now in place the Air2S will fall into the A3 category in a couple of years meaning that you will have to fly 150m away from people/buildings/structures etc so basically you will be limited to open countryside,   The Mini2 however can fly over people due to its weight.

I have to register the Mini 2 as well because I'm in the UK.

I have the Air 2 and Mini 2 and would recommend the Air 2 as it is a bit more capable, especially on windy days.  Definitely go the Fly More combo route if you can.

The registration isnt important,  they all need that if they have a camera,   its whether you can fly near a house/castle/train/road etc,   with the new classifications only the mini1/2 can do that when they start to enforce the classifications.

I see, might as well go with the Mini 2 then!

Don't buy anything new until DJI has certified the drones in Europe. Buy second hand, used. Once the DJI drones are certified, you'll buy what's best. Currently do not buy anything new.

If I am to buy a used drone till 2023, can I not use it after that time period?

Mini 2 is the best beginner drone atm.

Records 4K/30, takes nice pictures, can be charged with any PD powerbank, it'ts good for learning, it's "cheap" can fly easily to 4Km and back, can fly about 20min and has all the features any DJI drone has (GPS, RTH, etc).

Mini 2 is also more silent and it's less bulky, so it's easier to hold it in the hand, takeoff/land, change batteries, etc.

The Air2S is a more professional drone, it's better than the Mini 2 in every single aspect (Image quality, flight characteristics, etc) and has sensors, so it's easier to fly, but has no C label so if you are in Europe it can fly in A2 till 2023 and then will be A3.

Also Air2S can fly with no problems in windy conditions, so you won't learn as much than with the Mini 2.

I have both and only use the Mini 2 in areas where only sub 250g drones can fly. I bought the Air2S because I'm a photographer, so the increase in image quality is welcome.

So when it goes in the A3 category, where can I fly it?

Due to regulations, I would suggest the Mini 2.
Won't break your bank either.

I think I'll see depending on factors like if there is a a Mini 3 with some obstacle avoidance by December

Personally I never cared about obstacle avoidance.
Flying by sight is much safer!

Sometimes the sensors do come in handy e.g when you don't have the greatest view of your drone (but its still in VLOS) and you start moving it back, the sensors can see what you can't through the gimbal

I almost lost my drone doing just that.
I missed some wires that were behind me.
So now I always always rotate my drone 360 degrees before moving back or sideways.

I was on holiday when it happened and ruined my props.
Too bad I did not have spare ones with me (lesson learned) so I had to buy new ones, which was quite hard in Sweden.

Note that you can only convert 30 credits (5400 points) per month.
So the max you can convert is about € 21,- or $ 30,-
