Taiwan belong to the Japanese Empire from 1895 to 1945
During this period, the Japanese build a lot of inafraestructure all over the island, including railways and its stations, post offices, banks, etc

This is one example of what the Japanese build in that era, a bridge from a railway in today's Miaoli County, unfortunately after a huge earthquake, the bridge got damaged, and after passing the years now is just an historical touristic site, which receives thousands of tourist every day, as is a very japanese anime alike area.
