Seeing this contraption at the Spa Baths in Buxton (now a shopping arcade) made an instant connection.
Although this device was for lowering and raising invalids into the healing waters

Definitely a No Win situation.  

I'd certainly be seated in that for taking a relaxing bath rather than for being tested if I will die through drowning or burning
