It's my understanding that 2X, 4X, 14X and 28X are digital zooms AND 7X is an optical zoom. I would like to zoom my video from 1X to 28X but the problem is that 7X causes the video to jump. Is there a way to eliminate/bypass 7X from explore?

The only thing I can figure is that 2X & 4X are digital zooms of the primary camera AND 14X & 24X are digital zooms of the secondary camera which is 7X. Hence, 1X, 2X 4X, 7X, 14X and 24X.

Apple will solve a problem like that in no time.

Yes they probably Would. But when Apple was 12 years old it didn’t have a great reputation problem solving. Innovation can take time, I’m sure it will improve , by how much I’m not so sure.

Wait until you find out that you have no manual control over the 7x camera… Someone at DJI actually thought that was acceptable for a camera designed to be a step up from the M2P

A hell of a lot for DJI to learn from this come the Mavic 4, the Mavic 3 will go down in DJI history of how NOT TO launch & design a premier drone, in saying that I love the Mavic 3, just can see the design flaws that could have been well avoided & should be used in all future production runs from now on.

Apple would call it something like iSight and describe it as magical.  Or even auto-magical.

Totally agreed.  This was not their finest hour.  Between the gimbal rubbing physical issue, the oddities of flight, the breaking of airsense, the GPS performance post .300, the features not available at launch etc... it was a bit of a dumpster fire.  However, they are apparently able to resolve most of the issues.  I still have faith they can fix the bird.

But .... you are spot on about no way to fix a first impression or launch experience.  Hopefully it was lesson learned!

  • Without mention they promised slow motion at 120FPS that is not available yet.
  • LTE dongle that will never happen in the US
  • Onboard missions that will never happen as well
  • SDK that we are still waiting for that

We can keep going

  • You do have 120fps but its processed in camera, and its damn good. I’m not sure this could be processed any better, .
LTE dongle, that is available but you hardly think a Chinese company will change US regs.
On board waypoints. It is promised as it was on M2 which got waypoints after 7 months.
They did promise SDK would be released for Air 2/2s mini1/2 and it was released. And SDK now has been released for every DJI consumer drone. So why do you think it won’t be released for M3 ?

I have been asking the same. You'd think they design for that, there is a smooth transition from primary digital to secondary optical, but I guess it was too much...

They promise onboard missions just like the M2P, no virtual sticks.

I missed that... Promise of Onboard Waypoints? That's great news. From what I can gather software like Litchi is a lot smoother if Onboard autonomous waypoints can be used as opposed to virtual sticks.    Great news for those construction managers and flyers wanting to capture change of day/seasons/weather etc That would have to put a very big chalk mark in the M3 camp!

  • Erm, I shoot in 120fps ProRes all the time. Can't get much better than that.

Yeah litchi is far better, it was posted here on this forum that waypoints would come.

  • Good points.  Additional deliverables that are hanging out there.  The LTE thing I can forgive because they never said it would be available in NA, but the slow mo, and lack of waypoints does kind of suck.

The slow mo is available, and its only last month they said waypoints would come. Its not in any add campaign etc. with the lte that is available but won’t work in your country and thats not djis fault .

Yes you are correct. 2x and 4x are digital zooms from the primary camera. 7x is when the telephoto camera takes over, and is at its native resolution. Once you go above 7x you are then entering digital zoom on the telephoto  sensor.

The jump you see, obviously, is the drone switching camera's.
