I Crashed my Mini 3 Pro Already! THIS Would Have Prevented It!

Nice find DA.  

Once again, Russ shares with us a crash (last once Mavic 3 and now Mini 3).  At least he is sharing advice and lesson learned.  

Interesting to hear him say (around :52) he had the Mini 3 Pro for the last 5 weeks.

Yes I noticed that,  he was also flying in the snow which also helps date how long ago that was

Good reminder, I'd forgot about the snow in the video.  I do like Russ' videos.  He is a straight shooter.

It happened to everyone. That's why it's better to have side sensors and not backward. but again you have two more for more weight

dont know for sure but i remember seeing the first few minutes of that video.  sometimes russ doesnt take criticism so well and iirc, there may have been some negative comments that were unhelpful.....i guess.

I suspect the owners of the property (sand pile) may have found him trespassing on their private property since he filmed himself retrieving the drone near the top of the sand pile and made comments about how difficult it was to climb to the top.  The video was proof of him trespassing and could probably be used in a court of law in the USA.  Just a guess on my part....but with how litigious people are today, I would not have posted that video.

Whatever. His video is his to give or take. I hope he passes it on to someone who can post it without regard to consequences ;-)

Ditto I think I saw geese brooding on the top of a pile, not sure if it was the crash pile.

I dont know about the Mini 3 but on the Air 2S, if he were to have used the auto circle option, the drone actually turns sideways into the the path and twists the gimbal to the center of the object.  This allows it to use it's top sensors to act as a sort of side sensor to avoid these types of collisions.

I don't know if that's really possible.  The Air 2S has top sensors that they leverage to work as the eyes for the side when it's turned like that.  The Mini 3 only has front sensors to work with in that respect.

I think he forgot it doesn't have side ways sensors on the mini 3 pro , and thought he was about the highest point.... clearly not. Not great for someone that had the drone for 5 weeks.

What would have prevented your crash was a simple concept of spatial awareness. The number one reason people crash drones. Whether its close or a 100m away, you still should rotate the drone to check your surroundings, check the tallest building and set your RTH higher than it. I am sick of people blaming tech for failure. You didn't use your common sense, eyes and sense of SPATIAL AWARENESS, hence you failed. The drone didn't fail....you failed by not being aware of your surroundings. Your video title is click bait.

I did for the first M2P but Ive not bought it since.  Im not a big fan on insurance (at least not the optional ones.   buildings and car the exception.)

I just take the cost of the insurance Im not buying and stick it into the bank,  and then if there is an incident the cash is there to pay for it.

I'm trying to avoid this as much as possible.

Here,  any thing holiday related or electrical gets some additional insurance cover,  so if you book a hotel room and you turn up to the hotel burnt down you know that you are covered.
