Remarkable capture DA.    Looks like the young couple have settled in and ready to sail to another port somewhere.  


UPDATE:  Well I guess I should have said they are ready to "motor" somewhere as they don't have the sail up.

Indeed it is.  They probably don't even have oars/paddles onboard.  I'm sure for them it is either sail or use their motor.

Thanks Mathew.  I’ve got over 116 miles on mini3 now in 22 days since launch and it’s been pretty good. The odd glitch in wind but nothing unreasonable.

lol,   very true,    I mentioned this boat had a patchy hull,   I was wrong.   It was just the reflection of the mud.

One with a hyper extended handle.  Best to just use the motor or throw up the sails.

Years ago I sailed a 33ft yacht that had a tiller,   that was handy as you could pump the tiller to create propulsion,  especially useful when coming into a Ponton.

I've seen a tiller used for that same purpose by a couple of local sailors.  

I've also towed a sailboat back in when the motor was out and there was no wind.  Just couldn't leave them stranded even though a couple of other small boats just passed them by.

Ive had the pleasure of a tow like that when the motor had failed and the wind was not favourable,    its not that pleasant an experience.

One of the few drawbacks to a sailboat is you have to depend on having wind available.  As you well know it doesn't take a lot but then again I've seen days where there was not perceptible wind, dead calm.

I had to motor back from France once as there was zero wind,  the sea was so calm it was unbelievable.

I bet having a calm sea in the channel is a rare occurrence.  Good thing you had plenty of fuel onboard.

The little Diesel engines you get on yachts like that don't tend to use much fuel,  on the flip side they are not quick either.

Less fuel usage but less speed is not a bad trade off if you have a long ways to go.

My diesels can get up and go but you can also watch the fuel gauge drop when cruising at full speed.

Up until April this year you could buy red diesel here which was normal diesel that contained a red dye,   it was a fraction of the price of normal diesel as you didn't pay tax on it,  but it was only allowed for use in boats, generators and that kind of thing,   big fines if they caught you on the road with it.

I'm sure a few people still used it while on the road.  

At least it is a bit of a break for non-automotive uses.

Im sure they did,  but it was easy to spot for the authorities as it would dye the filter red when it was used and you would occasionally see road side checks where the tank is being dipped to check it.

There is always a way to get checked on so to me not worth the effort of getting caught and fined.  I assume that law enforcement in the UK doesn't haven't to have probably cause to stop and dip check the tanks?  Of is it disguised as a random stop and check on license, registration and insurance ploy?

Ive only seen it a few times and they created road blocks at rush hour and checked all the vehicles.  Caused great queues.  Its Customs thst do the check and they have different permissions to the police for that sort of thing.
