The strangest boat in the boat yard....


I happened to fly by the boat yard the other day and noticed this orange boat,  had to go back for a closer look.

Fascinating shot DA.    I have seen a few of those fully enclosed boats with solar panels on top but never an orange one.  Most I've seen are grayish in color.  You have a great eye for spotting these strange ones.

Lol. I do have an eye for the weird for sure.    Ive got one coming up to prove it.  

Any idea what the boat is used for?  My guess would have been coastguard but they typically wouldn’t use this boat yard AFAIK.

I've seen it used by companies transporting crews to and from offshore drilling rigs.  Comes in handy when you are facing some large swells and transporting quite a few people and their gear.

Hello - Great shot ! - it is indeed a lifeboat - I work on vessels at sea and these are on most of the larger - Construction and cargo vessels - they are launched from the upper platform like a ski ramp into the water - It's a rough ride inside until you're safely in the water and away from the host vessel.

Cheers Flyktech,     a google for enclosed lifeboat finds a number of very similar boats.   Any idea what it might be doing here?    Im seeing on google some very cheap china versions for sale,  maybe short life and then cheap to buy?

I briefly thought Bathyscape but then the lack of large portholes dimissed that idea.
The dayglo orange made me think lifeboat

Im just about to go to the parents and do some chores there and then after that its walk time in full sun.   Might be a short one.

Ive passed 26mil now so I don't really need to fly today.

Thats deffo a rig or ship lifeboat, the launch is like a theme park ride

Not so sure they would be a very smooth ride.  The ones I saw being used for the oil rigs did a bit of bobbing up and down on the waves.  I'm sure they are a bit hot inside when they are loaded and all the hatches are closed when the weather is bad.

Nice,  I went out around midday and looked for something interesting in the creek but alas nothing was happening,     probably knocked up 7km.

I took a walk along the valley path toward Buxton. Just a few K and then straight back.
It was still hot and stuffy even at that time of the evening.

That's one.  Nice find.  

I think this is a lifeboat.
The crew gets in and it falls down into the sea.
We made a lot of them on our model layout.

Here you can see one in the first picture on the back of the ship.
