I just order my DJI Mini 2 and im curious if i be able to fly the drone and make video without displaying it on my smartphone ?
Is it possible to start video just from the controller? And make a fly without smartphone app?
What will happen with a drone if smartphone battery die during a flight?

Thats for replies if you know

The use of the smartphone is foundamental for safety reasons. I don't know if you can start flying without the smartphone connected, but if the app crashes during the flight, or if you close it, nothing bad happens: you can just leave the drone hovering and reopen the app (or another app, like Maven Pilot) and regain the control. Or you can start the RTH procedure from the RC.

if there is no display on controller actually you dont know a status of a drone, as i found
https://www.droneblog.com/fly-dji-drone-without-phone/
even smart controller is not compatibile with Mini 2 but it is with Mavic Air 2

It’s perfectly fine to fly the Mini 2 without a phone as the drone has a safety measure where it won’t let you go a distance of 25 meters or ft I think, but of course flying with a phone is safer.

Ok so ill try, it may sometimes be critical in certain situations to take a phote or quick video when your phone is dead

Whist you can fly it without a phone and you can shoot video etc. you may also be unable to fly it if authorisations are required to launch, for the simple reason you will be unable to give those authorisations.

Would I fly without the app, yes I have done it IN A SAFE PLACE with no one else around. One point, you will be shoot blind.

Hello there fateofangel. Good day and thank you for reaching out. Yes, you may use only the DJI remote controller of the DJI Mini 2 when flying the DJI drone. It will fly just fine without a mobile device attached, but you will not have access to the DJI intelligent flight modes though as they need the DJI Fly application. Thank you and fly safe always.

I've tested it when disconected, there are distance limit, i realised that taking photo or video without a creen would be totally random , and not knowing a status is in fact rusky. Despite this props for DJI to give this option

I did have an old iPhone 6 die during a flight.  The drone was within VLOS and I was able to control the drone with the controller and bring it back to a safe landing.

The newest iPhones have the frame built with aluminium or stainless steel and I cannot figure out why on iPhone 6 the aluminum frame can have more interference than the new ones.
Maybe the reason should be found elsewhere (the internal antennas geometry of iPhones, for instance). A test can be performed putting the phone in airplane mode.

When I have flown with my iPhone 13 Pro Max I have been interrupted by phone calls and the like and so I usually just fly with my old iPhone 6s Plus where I was limited by processor power and battery life. I recently switched out the old battery with a new battery (inexpensive) and everything seems fine. (Without a SIM card or WiFi tether I face the same height and distance limitations as flying without a phone so I tether the 6s Plus to my phone (problems solved))

Can I activate my dji mini 2 using a 3rd party app? Because I can't even get the dji app as it's incompatible with my phone.. pretty disappointing, but I'll still keep it if I can find a way to fly it....

Hello there. Sorry about the trouble. It is required to use the DJI Fly app to activate the aircraft. May I know what error are you getting when trying to download or install the the app? Thank you.

I downloaded the app and like MANY OTHER PEOPLE, ITS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY PHONE! This isn't right, you at least need to make it possible to activate without the app. Nowhere did it state youd need an internet connection to fly, let alone an app that you MUST use to fly this stupid $300 paper wight. Need to fix the app asap, or at least make it possible to activate another way.

Hi. We are deeply sorry about the experience. An internet connection is needed when logging in, updating the firmware/Flysafe database, and activating the drone. It is not necessary to connect to the internet every time you fly the drone.  May I know what error are you getting trying to install or download the app? We are more than glad to help.

Hi. It cannot be activated from a computer. May I know what is the model of your phone? And did you download the app from this link: https://www.dji.com/global/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly?

I guess I'm returning my drone then.. very disappointing, sounds like a lot of people are having the same issue. Can't even fly it at all let alone with the camera and app functions. Why make a customer have to "activate" an item they own anyway?

Just out of curiosity did you check whether or not the phone was compatible with the Fly app before you bought the drone?
You don't even need to have the drone to test the App.
Suggestion, but a second hand compatible phone.

Hi there. It can be preliminarily determined that the issue is caused by a compatibility error. Since there are many device models awaiting testing, this issue cannot be resolved in the short term. If you have an urgent flight mission, it is recommended that you use the app with one of the supported mobile device models listed on the DJI official website in order to avoid a flight mission failure. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Well, since DJIGO will not work on my Android 12 phone,  I will not purchase the DJI Mini 4 pro drone! Since these drones are to be banned soon I wanted to buy one before the ban. I least I saved a bunch of money! Thanks DJI for saving me money!

Even if DJI Go worked on your Android phone it would be of no use to you for a Mini 4 pro which uses the FLY app and NOT DJI Go.

Try a bit of googling.

Good.
Now download the manual and spend some time reading all of that ...... carefully, several times and combine that with looking-at/comparing-with the app.

Hi there,

DJI Mini 3 support for RC-N1 and DJI RC.
RC-N1 > Needs smartphone to be connected on RC as it doesn't have a built-in screen.
DJI RC > It has built-in screen hence you don't need smartphone to fly aircraft.
You can check here for further details > DJI Mini 3

I hope this information has helped to clarify your inquiries. If you have any other questions, kindly let us know. Thank You!
