Nice shot.  Still looks green, you'll have to take another shot in a week or so to see if it has been roasted by the heat.

That could be - although the temperatures have already dropped 15 degrees overnight, and thunderstorms are forecast for the area. So the greenery may recover.

My pleasure Mr. B.

Hope your day is off to a great start.

First day here with no rain in the forecast but now the winds have come up and that pretty much grounds the drones.

Thanks Bruce. Yes it must have been a fantastic place to stay, in its heyday.
And it will have seen the distant hill whole, before the landslides took away so much of it.

Okay, back to normal.  Seems like your area tends to get a bit more rain than where DA lives.

That's why we're surrounded by reservoirs

At least that means there will be not be a shortage of water in your reservoirs anytime soon.

Thinking about all that water it reminds me of the Archimedes screw photo you posted.  Such a cool invention.

In fact the levels are quite depleted - as in most years - but not yet to a level that will see the imposition of hosepipe bans and the closure of carwashes,  Nothing as serious as the situation in your far West.

Archie is silent just now. The high river waters in the Spring bring down silt and debris which blocks it up. And the river level is seasonally low now. It's waiting for maintenance to restore it to operation.

How maintenance intensive is the screw?  Seems like it wouldn't require a lot other than debris removal.  Again, I could be totally wrong.  Still it remains a really cool pump.  Hard to believe it has been around in some form or fashion since before 3rd century BC.

California is already using desalinization plants but because of the super dense population water usage continues to outgrow availability.  They are already seeing the effects of drawing water out of reservoirs, etc.  Yards in California are extremely small in comparison to most other states so they don't waste a lot of water on the yards.

Even though Florida is not in a water crisis the State Water Management Authority implements yard watering limits to twice weekly in hopes of avoiding California type issues.  Fortunately, we also see a lot of rain coming off the Gulf Of Mexico.  Sometimes too much.  Another product we see more of than many states is winds, again coming off the Gulf of Mexico.

Yes it was an invention ahead of its time, perhaps. Simple but effective.
This one seems to be poorly sited, at a bend in the river and the confluence with a lesser stream, where eddies direct the silt towards the inlet.  It is forever breaking down.
I only just found out that Archimedes was only 25 when he died.
We're relatively lucky with the weather on this side of the Pond.

Only 25?  I thought from what I read on him he was much older.

UPDATE:  Per https://www.britannica.com/biography/Archimedes
Britannica seems to think he was 75.

I must admit I was astonished when I read his dates in this reference:

Named for its inventor, the Greek mathematician Archimedes (237-212 BCE), the Archimedes screw is a device for raising water. Essentially, it is a large screw, open at both ends and encased lengthwise in a watertight covering.

79 sounds much more plausible.
Just shows, you can't always trust Mr.Goggle

Very true, especially wikipedia.  I do trust a bit more sources that corroborate dates seen in 3-4 other places.

In any case, he came up with a great invention.

I spent a chunk of the day spray lacquers but I did go out for a second walk to check one of my geocaches,  its not been logged either found or missing for a while and I wanted to check it,   From leaving my house its 1.2 miles up hill the whole way to the cache and a rather nice plum tree on the way back for a snack.
