I noticed the crumbling remains of this shepherd's hut (or bothy) on the way up to Holme Moss.

Very nicely done POI Mr. B.    That hut appears to have been abandoned many years back.

While traveling through France on a EurRail pass many years ago I saw a couple of shepherd's huts but they were on wheels and made of wood.  Or at least that was what I was told they were called. So I guess you can have mobile ones and stationary ones.

I became very friendly with the curator, over the years. One of the exhibits in the entrance was just such a mobile hut (Loge de Commis de Ferme) which would be moved from farm to farm to house the itinerant workers who would come during harvest season.  This one no longer has its wheels.

I thought they started building them around the 17th century and later moved to corrugated huts on wheels.

Well certainly all the ones I've seen around here are in a state of collapse, so out of use for a heck of a long time.

Good hunting!

Turned out I was the one hunted.

A newbie diver with a spear gun, not somebody in our dive party, encroached on us from behind and made an errant shot that ended up with his spear penetrating my thigh.  I had to go to the ER and have it removed.  Fortunately, it did not hit a bone or an artery.  They got it out, stitched me up and shot me full of antibiotics and anti inflammatories.  Kept me overnight and discharged me around lunch today.  My thigh is still a bit sore and just need to take it easy per the doctor's orders.  No diving for at least 3 weeks and only after my follow up and he clears me.  

What really irks me is this kid was only 16 years old with no scuba diving experience and no experience handling a speargun.  The police detained him and are trying to find out who rented him the gear.  He had alcohol in his system but not enough to be considered impaired.  Hopefully, this will be a lesson learned for him.  You want to dive and spear fish....then get some lessons and get qualified.

Unbelievable!!  Hope you have no lasting effects. The kid should be suitably punished - and the supplier of the kit.  He will be lucky if you don't sue his 455 for the medical bills.

Still a bit sore around the wound this morning but getting better day by day.  Just keeping an eye on the wound to make sure it heals properly and no infection gets started.  I'm over being mad at the kid but still a bit miffed that a dive shop would rent him equipment.  Oh well, life goes on as they say.
