The Chinook CH-47 is loud due to it's twin engines and tandem rotors.  You can always hear them before you see them.  They weren't designed to be stealthy.

Cheers Mr b.  Just lucky.  And getting down low as I had no idea where it was coming from.  And no ADSB was broadcast which I think is naughty.

That's a CH-47 characteristic for sure.  I knew a couple of special operation folks that had to repel out of a CH-47 and they said the down wash from the rotors was really powerful.

I can't imagine that at all,  even a normal helicopter wash is pretty strong.

Yeah, to hear them tell the story it was quite the adventure to hang on to the repelling rope and go down without getting blown off the rope.  One of them laughed and said at least we didn't have to try and climb the rope or we would have never made it.

Yes the noise is incredible.  I could hear it for minutes before it appeared.

If my memory serves me I hated trying to get down from the top.

We just had some very active days with very low flying Hercules planes (I could count the ribbons) doing practice runs and lots of chinooks and apaches too.
Awesome sights.
I tried to catch them on radar before they dove under and guess their route a bit.
Got lucky three times.
And the other day some Apaches were doing lots of rounds over Heerde. Very impressive.

I always have 2 backups and remove the oldest when making a new one.
But I found out after I deleted the oldest one that still had the footage.
I just forgot I had the footage.
