Great filming. Was that its last voyage before decomissioning?  Or is it transferring elsewhere?

The ferry has relocated from Port Melbourne to Geelong on 23rd Oct 2022.

The Spirit of Tasmania has sailed from Port Melbourne to Tasmania for 37 years and the ship's departure will mean there is no direct ferry connection from Melbourne to Tasmania any more.

All ferry travel to Tasmania will have to depart from Geelong which is a city about 1 hour south of Melbourne.

Thanks for the explanation.   That sounds rather inconvenient for people wanting to cross from Melbourne to Taz.

Yes, it is inconvenient but unfortunately, there were economic reasons.

I heard that The Spirit of Tasmania wanted upgrades done to the existing Port in Melbourne to improve boarding/loading/unloading but the Port Authority did not agree to it.

In the end, the SOT moved to Geelong after negotiations fell through.

I have a guide on travelling to Tasmania onboard the Spirit of Tasmania in the link below. It's a great state to visit.

Amazing ship.  Sad to see it leave the Port of Melbourne.  Very nicely documented.

Amazing footage of that old steam train.    You just don't see those steamers anymore.
