The New Pier........


Finally one of the rambleshackled piers has been updated,    Ive seen people fiddling at this one a few times and now I see why.

It will be interesting to see if they do anymore for sure.

Well if I see them I’ll pass on the advice.   Sadly I fly over a river to get there so it’s unlikely.

Yes,   to be honest I was really surprised to see what they had done,   almost all the rest look ancient.

Great capture DA.    Nice to see at least one of the piers are being updated.  Still needs a bit of trim work done to finish off the renovation.

Maybe his renovation will inspire others.  However, most of the others look pretty aged and not sure why they were not updated  much sooner so they may have zero plans to renovate.

I will certainly keep an eye out,   the last few days it's been extremely quiet along there.

Seems to be that time of year when everybody slows down.  No doubt the trains and post employees slowed down for the holidays.

Years back when I was temporarily stationed at the American Embassy in Madrid I took a train pass to tour through Andorra, France and Germany.  While on the vacation trip the trains went on strike and I was stuck for a week.  Finally rented a car and did a little sightseeing while waiting on the strike to end.

I'm sure there must have been but during the day I was out sightseeing and then in the sleeper train at night commuting from city to city.  It was for sure my fault for not keeping up on current events.  My only excuse was I didn't and still don't speak German so probably wouldn't have known in advance anyway.  Still turned out to be a nice 30 day vacation.

Ive always found foreign railway stations to be difficult to get on with,   buying tickets are usually no problem especially as most have good machines you can use and in most EU countries you can even change the language on them. But if they change the platform the train is due on it can be really hard to understand that,  usually if lots of people start rushing somewhere else I follow them.

Hopefully they were rushing to catch the train to where you wanted to go.  I've never really liked the arrival/departure boards in train stations, especially the ones in Asian countries as they are really confusing to me.

Usually the tactic has paid off.   In HK and Singapore the trains were brilliant,   easy to understand and very very clean.   In fact in Singapore it's illegal to eat or drink on the trains.

Wasn't exactly that way in the Phillippines or Thailand.

Yeah, you make a good point.  

The fastest train I ever rode on was in Japan and it cruised at 320kmph but could top out at 400kmph.  Nothing like that anywhere here in the US.

Nothing like that here either yet,  the new train line they are building is called HS2 which will be capable of top speed of 360km/h but the line is designed for 400km/h

That's going to be really fast.  I pity the poor person or vehicle that gets hit by a train traveling at that speed.  Or, will this be on a raised track or an underground track?

It's above ground and some tunnels,  how they wil keep people off the line I dont know.   they may not have crossing points like on normal railways and just have it dip into a tunnel or bridge at that point.

There has been a lot of criticism over the cost, and last I read it was being scaled back somewhat.

The longer they wait to start the project the more costlier it will be.  No doubt that will be a multi-year project and the price of consumables and labor will go up during that timeframe.

It has been started.    There’s a few auditors on YouTube that drone over the construction works.
