The Corinth Canal was a construction dream - a challenge that lasted 2,300 years.
From the testimonies of ancient authors it appears that the Tyrant of Corinth Periander was the first to think of the opening of the Isthmus, around 602 BC.
After the opening of the Suez Canal, the Zaimis Government took the decision to cross the Isthmus and in November 1869 passed the law "on the straightening of the Isthmus of Corinth".
The opening works began on April 23, 1882.
The inauguration took place with particular grandeur on July 25, 1893, by Prime Minister Sotirios Sotiropoulos.
Today, the Corinth Canal is an international maritime transportation hub and serves around 12,000 ships per year, of all nationalities.

That's a truly amazing feature, Tasos. Brilliant job of filming the ship transiting the canal.
