It never used to.  It would stop dead at 400.  Granted, I haven't tried to go above 400 ft is quite a while, so I don't knoiw when this change took place.  

I checked: Max alt on the DJI GO app is still set at 400 on the "main" screen.  I do recal there is another setting for it somewhere else with a slider - not sure if that matters cause I didn't change anything...

Why might it have changed?  An accidental/unintended change on your part perhaps ?

OK but upload the flight log to that site then down load the csv, unzip it and open it and look for the column entitled "HOME.heightLimit [ft]", that column contains the max height limit setting.
If it was 400ft and the drone went higher then there is a problem with the drone

I understand your point and you're 100 percent correct.  

I guess I was looking for a light discussion about this conundrum and don't have a real desire to dig into it too deep because it doesn't seem like an existential issue for the drone  - and again, I appreciate your response.
