So,  this is a let down and a joke.  500m limit?   What's so professional

Is that limit 500m for altitude above where you are or 500m away (horizontally) from where you are?
Ever since the very first Phantom 3 there has been a height limit of 500m.

distance.  the limitations on the ground station make it useless.  What's the point of having to fly all the waypoints?      This was a fail.

you need to ground your craft until you learn the laws governing the hobby and why their in place. only one failing here is you sir

I probably need to drive the speed limit too.   I did ground my craft.  It was too hot this afternoon to fly any more.

You didn't actually read the groundstation post did you?  The 500m limit is the max radius from the point of interest.

yeah.  that's exactly what it is.   500m limit in distance.  Go back and look at the real ground station for the phantom 2..  no such limit.

That's what I figure.  I'm in on beta on a few.    Looking forward to testing some apps that have some real application.   

Could always write your own code for it :-)  ps.  500 Meters?  I can't see that far :-), and would be afraid I would loose it.. :-(

500 meters is around 1640 feet.  I fly out a couple of miles over farm land and still have connection.  I've never lost mine after 185 flights.   1640 feet, isn't really that far.  But some won't want to fly out of line of sight.  Not a concern of mine over farmland.

I've not flown near 500 meters yet, as I purchased mine just several days ago. Is the 500 meter limit for real? I thought I saw several videos/threads of people who fly much outside that limit.

I noticed this today as well.. I am so glad i didn't buy the actual ground station for a 500m limitation

DJI must know this action limits their marketability.

for example if i work pipeline inspections and i have to inspect a remote section of pipeline the same way every Tuesday, the section is 800 meters long and i travel the same route every time it takes me 4 hours every time, now a technology comes out that allow me to do it in minutes and maintain a digital record, you guessed it i want it, but then i discover its limited to 500 meters functionally....so then why would i buy it if i have to risk manual flight every time i do an inspection when waypoints would allow a consistent flight path altitude and record.

I feel that the altitude restriction should be a must but distance should be left to the comfort and experience level of the operator.

DJI should at least make a feature where you can override this restriction at your own legal acknowledgment. .

I have had mine out 2 miles with no issues flying only on FPV. it depends on how fast your going, what kind of maneuvers your doing, if you climbing a lot, and the area wind speed. Video is determined by obstructions.  

something else is that flight speed is limited to 11.2 MPH.   it crawls along at this pace.  So manual setting of waypoints, depletes battery.  wasted time.  Then you get to fly it at 11.2 MPH.   fail.

You do know that using it to inspect pipelines is considered commercial use in Canada? Means you have to follow strict guidelines or you can be heavily fined if caught doing it.

Of course I understood that and I am sure an operator who uses one knows that as well, I do not use mine to inspect lines I meant what I said as an example, my apologies if my post was misleading.

I've never had any experience flying a drone in my life. After much reading and youtubing I was told DJI was the one to get. So I chose P3 Advanced over Standard by comparing their flying capability. Had my initial 30m limit beginner flight for 17 minutes on last Wednesday and my second flight  the next day(yesterday) and quickly came to learn that there is such 500m max ceiling limit where DJI did not mention it clearly (and yes I did my 500m max limit on my second flight). The picture above was taken at the max 500m(height and distance} and I couldn't get the skyline and more land space that was requested by my property client. Really disappointed.

Should have saved some bucks getting the P3 Standard version since they all fly up to 500m max. Why DJI even bother to advertise P3A/P's 1.2 miles/2km flight capability? Respecting the aviation law is one thing, deceiving its supporters by giving a false impression is another.

I'm confused. There's no limit on distance. I've flown 4.3km away from me.
