Hi,

I am a UK pilot with a CAA Operational Authorisation GVC - VLOS certificate. I am visiting Malta next month and wish to take my Mini 4 Pro. It's been upgraded to the latest firmware etc...

I have registered on the Malta Transport site but wanted to check the following:

1. Does the latest firmware with the M4Pro include the necessary remote ID?
2. Do flights that operate under the 'old' A1 category still require a flight plan to be submitted here: https://idronect.notion.site/Int ... e5bb898b8b904bc3af3
3. Bearing in mind the UK is now not in the European Union, is there anything else I need to consider?

Many thanks for help / advice.

If you have time, maybe sit the online EASA drone exam so that you can get their drone certificate. Give you peace of mind in case someone challenges you. I did my exam via the Luxembourg website and it was free

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. The CE markings is applicable to 27 European Union Countries + 4 (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland), and it does not include the UK. If you wish to fly in Malta which is included in the 27 EU countries, we highly recommend checking this link https://www.easa.europa.eu/en/domains/civil-drones/naa to figure out how to register your drone and where you can fly a drone in different European countries. Also, I will provide useful links below. Should you have any technical inquiries about your unit, feel free to contact us. Have a good one.

You need to label your drone with the EU identification number you get when you register,  and remember that any UK qualification is not recognised by the EU.    Also worth noting that the EASA rules dont apply in the EU as you may expect,  they seem to be using FRZ to get around the standardised rules so always worth checking that country's app for where you want to fly.

Unless something has changed in the past 6 months, you will also need insurance to stay legal.

Also, you will need to register with the Malta aviation agency, and pay to access their airspace app.  When I did that, their system was broken for months - their payment processing system requires you to enter a phone number, and non-Malta phone numbers were not accepted and just resulted in an error (though their system claimed it was set up for foreign phone numbers).  I tried to get it to accept my USA phone number hundreds of times, for many weeks, it would fail every time. Speaking with staff at the Malta aviation agency was useless, they said the system was working perfectly, I should just keep trying. When I finally got to Malta, I bought a local SIM for my phone - with a Malta phone number - and when I tried that, it all went through and I was able to access the airspace map.
