Hey Guys, I have been testing the above Dongle and let me say, this works very well compared to when it was open for the Mavic 3. One thing to remember is that do not go too high has i found signal drops on the 4G bt i did a very low flight and went out 15km - out of that 15km, 13 was with no RC signal. Worked flawlessly.

Latency gets there when the 4G signal goes to red but still very controllable hence I was advised not to fly high. 70 meters and below then the signal is strong and very little latency.

Thanks for the info!

On the remote side, is there anything required other than connecting RC to smartphone through wifi?

Not really, I just connect to wifi/hotspot and it works. Also check your APN settings for the SIM card under device management, mine had to be changed and it connected.

When you say your sim had to be changed do you mean you needed to get a new sim ?

I did not change the sim, just the APN settings under device management

I'm not familiar with this new product.

What exactly is the purpose of the 4G dongle?

I don't understand why I'd need one over the standard WIFI connection.

Under your normal Wi-Fi connection you can only use while on the ground. The dongle is attached to aircraft using your hotspot or using a second dongle in your remote control to continue flying using 4g if you lose signal. It’s proven to be helpful in high signal interference areas IE cities dense urban areas where 4g signal can take over. It’s also possible to fly further if 4g signal is good and battery is capable of returning home.

So the Air 3 Dongle works everywhere, whereas the Mavic 3 Dongle only works in China? Is there any difference between the two models except appearance and mounting point?

So redundancy?

I'm in the UK and considering you can't fly the Air3 legally over uninvolved people (ie. built up areas like cities) or beyond VLOS it seems like a strange product.....

Is this not the same for the rest or Europe?

Mavic 3 dongle works on OS3 and Air 3 is OS4 so their respective dongles works accordingly.

Yes same rules, so yes redundancy, but lets say SAR teams who can get SOP to fly beyond LOS then in that situation it will help .
Redundancy is a good option, we have all at one time or another lost signal when in LOS so handy to have .

Dongle 1 is slightly longer than 2, air 3 has a compartment for installation. Both Dji RC pro and RC2 have also compartments to use a second dongle so you wont have to tether to a hotspot.

Does it go further than redundancy and replace 2.4/5.1/5.8 GHz? In other words, will Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro take off if remote is 100 km/miles away from drone?

Hi Mate, I don't think the RC2 has a compartment for the dongle. I have never noticed one and it can be connected via hotspot or wifi.

Technically, has long has you have an internet connection on your RC and your drone dongle has 4G signal and they are paired and powered up next to each other than yes, place it 100 miles away and you will be able to take off.

Oh, ok, they need to be powered next to each other. That was my question, as Parrot Anafi AI does not need to be powered next to its remote.

I may be wrong about it but I would assume the RC and Drone would need to see a pairing connection via remote first which means it would need to be within range of each other.

Oh your right, I have been using dongle in RC pro I presumed the same for RC 2
