I have a M4p and bought a Air3 today . I would like to fly both drones with both RC2 s.  Not at the same time Like use one with both drones (not at the same time) and if the first RC2 gets low batt I can use the other.   When binding I cannot remember exactly but received messages on both saying something like I can use this controller 5 times before something gets unbound. Thoughts ?

You need to bind the controller to drone when you do the swap so that the flyaway coverage is valid.   This does need an Internet connection and just takes a few taps to do, you can do this as many times as you need.

It seems your Remote Controller is not bind, kindly login DJI Fly app and follow the steps in the site to bind your device DJI Fly App Account and Device Binding

Each time you change drones, you have to go through the binding/linking process again. Please do check also on the firmware and app version, make sure both device running on the latest version.

No logic there. A RC can be set up with 2 drones. But 2 RC cannot be setup with the same aircraft!
And it has been suggested i must have an internet connection when doin this bind/unbind. Process.

That is not good.
It must be a firmware thing.

I would luke the techical reason why i cannot have 2 rc ready to go with a single drone. Even if firmware  cannot do it  then  a button in settings choses the drone. And does whatever it must do to switch to another aircraft.
Please don't tell me there is No way around this situation.  This ia D J I after all.

As mentioned, even if the same remote controller needs to be paired with different aircraft, turn on the controller and open the connection guide. Then select the corresponding aircraft model and either a firmware upgrade or switch prompt will appear on the app. Follow the instructions to complete the operations.
