Hello everyone,

I was excited to start flying with the DJI Mini 4 Pro tonight, but on my second flight, something went wrong. The drone was just hovering when it suddenly lost power and fell out of the sky. I had the latest firmware installed, and the battery was fully charged. I was standing right beneath it when it completely shut off and dropped.

The company where I bought it are picking it up and it likely gets replaced. Does anyone know how this could have happend? Seems like a product failure..

If you don't know how this forum works, you will now been asked to upload your flightlog data so that they (other members here) can examine it and tell you what it has happened...

Standard procedure...

All I can see from your pictures is that the radio aerial are not set up correctly, but at short distance as you were, it may be irrelevant...

You did read the manual about signal and positioning?

I have trouble understanding how to get the flight log. I went into the DJI fly app, and went to my profile and then MORE. I see flight records there, but how do I upload it? I also tried connecting the drone to my pc, but no flight log can be found on the drone itself. Or is it a .db file? Thank you.

Yes .. not relevant.
Antenna positioning can't cause a loss of power.
If antenna positioning is very wrong, the worst thing that could happen is loss of signal which would trigger Failsafe RTH.

The file that matters is the .txt file.

But it probably won't show much except that the drone was flying or hovering normally and then it wasn't.
That's how things are with a sudden loss of power.
It could be a  loose battery that moved and broke contact.
It could be a rare genuine hardware error.

To post flight data ... Go to: https://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/
... where you'll find instructions.
That will give a report you can post a link for the report here.

Or if you use Airdata, post a link to the Airdata report for the flight.

Or just post the .txt file.

If you used the RC controller, you'll find your files here:
Android\data\dji.go.v5\files\FlightRecord

I was going from the first picture he posted, where you can still see what it seems to be the camera working but the drone is not connected... That's the only reason why I mentioned the signal...

I didn't even see that he mentioned loosing power until you pointed out... I thought he meant signal...

All good...

Hi guys, thanks for the guidance. I've uploaded the .txt. I'm very curious to what you guys will find. Indeed  I though the same regarding the signal. If it just lost signal it would have triggered return to home, but here it just shut off completely in the sky.

I tried converting the .txt with the online converter, but it seems to fail. I hope it is ok for me to just post the .txt

Thank you so much for looking into this. I really appreciate it.

Yesterday i experimented the same issue with a Mini 3 Standard. The drone was brand new, and at the second flight it had a strange behaviour. He flipped in mid air, recovered and after a few seconds, crashed. No visible damage at all. Battery correctly installed, enough energy, perfect weather condition.
I am intrigued because from the unboxing and first start, the remote is beeping randomly. (not the classical "disconected" strong beep). It is a kind of double beep and is related to the camera settings. The play and camera shutter "button" on the phone, is flashing shortly.
I reinstalled the app, replaced the USB cable, IMU, Compass & gimbal calibration but still persisting.I'm still in the process of identifying the cause.
I had to menton: this is not my first drone, i fly DJI drones since 2013... and i had a few

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

We regret to learn about the incident. Could you confirm if the error occurred before take-off or while in flight?

Please keep us posted. Thank you.

Hi Diana,

No problem and thanks for your reply. Yes I can confirm that it happend in-flight. Not during take-off.
Could you find anything in the log? In case you missed it I have uploaded it here:

Hi guys, thanks for the guidance. I've uploaded the .txt.

As is usual for fall from the sky incidents, your data isn't much use except to eliminate some other possible causes.
Your data shows the battery voltage was good and there was no collision.
You still had a clear, unobstructed line of sight when signal was lost.
The drone was in stable flight with no abnormalities evident.

The likely cause was a sudden loss of power, either battery movement broke contact or there was some sort of rare, genuine hardware failure.

Hi Labroides,

Thank you so much for reviewing the flight log! It confirms what I suspected, which is unfortunate. I've forwarded this information to the company where I made the purchase for their reference.

I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. Thanks again!

Cheers,
Vincent

Hello,

The drone was sent back to a repair center through the reseller and they concluded that the damage doesn't fall under the warranty. I don't have an explaination yet but I obviously disagree. I'm trying to sort this with DJI directly now.

Hi Diana,

The drone was sent to a repair center through the reseller, and I was informed that the damage isn't covered under warranty without any further explaination. However, Labroides clearly stated in the log that no user-related issues were found, so I'm quite confused by the situation. I've requested the drone to be sent back. I'm now trying to resolve the issue directly with DJI, bypassing the reseller.

the exact same thing happened to my Avata 2, I also had a mini 4 pro I crashed, defenitely would suggest you to get refresh care in this case since if you do Dji can send you a new one and it also extends warranty for cases like this.

Hello there!

I had the same issue from my MINI 4 PRO 2 days agos (Monday). I was flying straight in a clear day, fully charged battery, no problems with signal, obstacles whatsoever, then suddenly a grey screen (just like the other guy posted) appeared and drone lost signal. I thought it would reappear in a couple seconds or activate the return to home, but nothing. I've waited 20 minutes and started searching according to my last video where it would be the crash site.

Somehow I was lucky to find my drone in a field of grass. It dropped 150m straight down and still works. I've taken to a specialized dealership to see the flight logs and everything, and the guy said it just dropped, nothing wrong with controllers or signal. He has never seen anything like this.

I'm gonna post my flight log to see if you guys have any ideia. Problem is that I bought the drone from AMAZON in SPAIN (and the serial number indicates the drone is from germany, which I cannot get their contact e-mail or number) and I live in Brazil.

If you have any advice, it would be highly appreciated. I'm scared of flying it again and happen the same thing .
