Just got back from a shoot and attempted transferring my footage onto an SSD. The Card mounted to my computer and the transfer started- about 950gb of footage. When I came back there was an error and now my mac will not read any of the footage.

When I plug it back into the 4D, i'm getting a fragmentation warning, but all of the footage plays back in camera. This is insane that its happening and on a brand new SSD. @DJI I need some assistance on this and I need the remaining footage that is on the card. 800 of the 950 transferred.

Hi Jason, we are sorry to hear about your issue. Just to double confirm, the ProSSD can be recognized by the Mac, and you can see the files, but they can not be read/played on the Mac, right?
Or is it the case the ProSSD can not be recognized by the Mac at all?
Currently, you may try to copy the files via the Ronin 4D through a USB-C cable.
Method:
Ensure DJI Ronin 4D is updated to v01.04.0200 or above. To enable this function:
1. Go to “Home” > “System” > “About” > “...”.
2. Tap the USB icon.
3. Connect DJI Ronin 4D to a PC via a USB-C Cable, and the PC can identify the storage device.
See if this way works. Please keep us updated.

Thanks for the reply Stephen, The SSD can not be read by my Mac at all. The SSD light does not even turn on when I connect it to my Mac. I was unaware that that I could transfer directly from the 4D. I tried this and it worked. Thank you very much!

Is there a potential problem with my SSD I really don't feel safe using this anymore. What would be next steps on this?

If the light does not turn on, it means the ProSSD has not been powered on. May I know if you are using a docking station when connecting DJI Pro SSD to the computer? If yes, please try to remove the docking station and directly connect the DJI Pro SSD to the computer. Or try to use a different connecting cable, or try another computer and see if the ProSSD can be connected.
If it is still not powered on, you may send the unit in for us to check further. You can start an online repair case here. Thank you.

It doesn't allow me to inout the serial number of the SSD when trying to start the repair, it says that it cannot find that serial number.

Please proceed with the repair by selecting product model manually, and select Ronin Cinema Cameras. Thank you.

Wanted to add a comment - we had a similar situation this week on a professional film shoot.

Despite the camera appearing to function normally on set, when we came to offload the rushes, the card seemed to be failing, and wouldn't stay connected to the Mac or PC (we tried both) long enough to offload. Sometimes the light came on the card, sometimes it didn't power up at all when plugged in via USB-C. The clips looked corrupted and some files read 0 bytes (thumbnails had purple and green hues, files were incomplete, wouldn't play back).

We then put the card back in the camera, and the first time we tried this, the clips were visible on the card. On subsequent attempts though, the camera would not recognise the card and said to format it. After rebooting the camera and reinserting the card several times (and NOT formatting it), it eventually loaded up, and we managed to play the files normally through the camera.

Our ONLY solution in retrieving the footage was using the method above - if the camera can still read the card, install the Assistant 2 app, connect the camera via the method above, and you will see a storage drive pop up on a Mac desktop. We successfully recovered all the remaining footage from the faulty card using this method, and the clips didn't have any errors. We were only missing one clip which seems to have disappeared.

Having nearly lost a huge amount of footage, time and money, we want other people to be aware of this potential issue and workaround. This forum post is the only one we found describing this process of connecting the camera direct to a computer for offloading media, and we feel that others would benefit from trying this before the huge inconvenience of sending the cards off to DJI.

@dji Stephen, do we know what the potential problem here is? I've been seeing this happen way too many times on the forums. Are there potentially faulty cards out there? As a user who does fairly high end branded commercials on the regular it would be helpful to know why this is happening.

Transparency is a welcomed thing nowadays.

what's inside of this SSD is simply a Samsung M2 drive.

the problem is, I suspect they are sealed with a clip and some type of friction adhesive (making them very difficult to open)

what I believe is happening with the failed devices is the proprietary chip (DJI puts in there ONLY to prevent you from using other ssds) eventually fails.

if you are willing to send your drive to me, I will do my best to carefully disassemble it with a Jeweler's saw, try to remove the M2, place it into any other SSD housing, and send it back to you FOR FREE

but you need to understand that it could break.

what I will get out of this is the opportunity to cut open a "broken" SSD and see exactly how they have set up the housing (because I want to place my own M2 drives into this housing)

I was able to figure out how to do this with the CineSSD for the Inspire2. the only thing inside of those housings are again: the proprietary chip, and a $97-280 Samsung SSD.

let me know if you're interested.
