Wanted to add a comment - we had a similar situation this week on a professional film shoot.
Despite the camera appearing to function normally on set, when we came to offload the rushes, the card seemed to be failing, and wouldn't stay connected to the Mac or PC (we tried both) long enough to offload. Sometimes the light came on the card, sometimes it didn't power up at all when plugged in via USB-C. The clips looked corrupted and some files read 0 bytes (thumbnails had purple and green hues, files were incomplete, wouldn't play back).
We then put the card back in the camera, and the first time we tried this, the clips were visible on the card. On subsequent attempts though, the camera would not recognise the card and said to format it. After rebooting the camera and reinserting the card several times (and NOT formatting it), it eventually loaded up, and we managed to play the files normally through the camera.
Our ONLY solution in retrieving the footage was using the method above - if the camera can still read the card, install the Assistant 2 app, connect the camera via the method above, and you will see a storage drive pop up on a Mac desktop. We successfully recovered all the remaining footage from the faulty card using this method, and the clips didn't have any errors. We were only missing one clip which seems to have disappeared.
Having nearly lost a huge amount of footage, time and money, we want other people to be aware of this potential issue and workaround. This forum post is the only one we found describing this process of connecting the camera direct to a computer for offloading media, and we feel that others would benefit from trying this before the huge inconvenience of sending the cards off to DJI. |
