I’m seriously considering upgrading my whole Motorcycle Vlogging setup.

  

I’m interested in purchasing the new “DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo” and then using 2  “DJI Mic 2 Receviers”. One in my MC helmet and the second mic to record sound from the MC exhaust. Both would be paired to the Action 5 Pro camera at the same time.

  

For me it will be quite a significant expense to upgrade from my basic SENA 10C Pro setup. (The SENA has shocking audio and zero video stabilisation! It still makes a great everyday helmet Camera for safety purposes and is a good Coms unit). So, in the interest of saving a few coins, I’m looking at just buying 2 of the” DJI Mic 2 Receiver mics” and not even bothering to get the matching DJI Mic 2 Transmiter Unit. This way I can save myself about $200 Australian. The inbuilt battery in the reciver mics should be more than enough for my needs. If I am on an extended tourer, I can also use my high-capacity power- bank. (20,000mAh with USB Type C output) to re-charge the mics.

  

I do understand that by getting the full “DJI Mic 2 Digital Wireless Dual Microphone Kit with Charging Case” I would then be able to connect the microphones to other cameras and so on, but honestly I’m not interested in using other cameras for audio recording, as the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is all I (hopefully) need.

  

So, by not bothering with the full Mic 2 kit,(transmiter included) and just instead using 2 mics with the Action 5 Pro camera, I save my self-$200 …'Right?" Or am I missing something here by not paying $200 extra for the matching Mic2 tramsmiter unit?

  

Any advice or your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Without the controller unit, you wont be able to make adjustments to the mic settings.... the biggest being, turning ON 32bit float, as it is set to off by default. Also low-cut filter is turned ON, which I also prefer off. Noise reduction is also default off, which is proven really helpful to me. so I would recommend getting it. BUT! know that everyone on here has the same issue with the output jack failing after a couple weeks. The headphone jack continues to work, DJI hasn't mentioned anything to anyone on a proper fix... but if recording locally on each mic, you'll be fine.

Thanks Justin for passing on the Information about the fact that you can't enable 32bit float on the stand-alone transmitters without having the DJI Mic 2 receiver also.

Bloody annoying, as the DJI promotional material doesn't make it clear, that whilst the mic transmitters are capable of 32-Bit float recording they fail to mention, that in order to do so you need the matching receiver. Very deceptive marking on Dji's behalf. Not impressed at all! You would have thought, that they could have made the default mode for the trasmitters, 32Bit float!  
I also read on another forum, that a Dji Mic2 owner reported that there is no way to increase the mic gain on the trasmitters, and without the receiver unit to adjust the mic gain, the recording volume on the recivers is way too low, without boosting it in post videeo editting.

Looks like I'm now going to have to get the matching transmitter unit after all. Wich as far as I can tell, can not be bought alone, unless it's part of a kit! Luckily I haven't yet opend up the originally packaging they came with the 2 X Dji mic 2's that I where delivered today. Frustrated I be!
