Ok DJI, you replaced my "defective overall" unit with a "new unit"... Has old motors and when I checked the firmware it is 1.1.8!! THAT IS OLD!!! Ok, I send it off July 31, get it back Sept. 28th and first you tell me (yes I do have the emails) that "as a one time courtesy" you are replacing my unit. Later you say that the reason for the replacement is because my unit was "defective overall". Then you send me a replacement that has firmware that is older than any you have listed on the site? CRAP, the one I sent in had newer firmware than that on it... 1.1.9!!!

So, should I even go to the trouble to update it?

keep it at 1.1.8 and enjoy it, this is a rare version, you might get lots of money on eBay for it having such a firmware.

LOL.... Practically antique... I'm doing the update, damn the torpedos, if the thing bricks they can spend more time getting it back. I was patient the first go around but I can be more trouble than its worth....

Man you got patience ! more power to you in the upgrade and i hope you don't have to send it back ever again and at least enjoy it for the little time we have till winter comes.

Thanks! The first one worked fine for about 3 flights then the "no signal' issue started. Everything worked great other than that, video, photo, telemetry...just no video live feed. It was a hardware issue.

I have a P2 H3-3D with 5.8 video and a old Flamewheel 450 I use with my old GoPro2 with the servo driven gimbal on it. I was really digging the quick setup time on the P3P and actually had thought of getting a P3S as a backup. I will say that so far I have been lucky on my DJI stuff. The older Flamewheel 450 and 550 with the old first generation NAZA worked well and I never had issues like a lot of folks had. I also never updated to the newest software until I was pretty sure the bugs had been worked out. I tell you what fun is..., its flying the Flamewheel 450 bare bones, no GPS and no extra crap... flies like that thing is on rails...like a Heli actually. I am a RC 3D Heli guy though but love multicopters. Got my first back in 2010 and compared to what is out now it was a big turd...

I am the same way as you been a heli and airplane flyer since 2004 and my last DJI product was a  flame wheel 550 hex with a naza 2 and 5.8ghz video feed, it was fun till i got tired of the extensive setup time and the so many parts to gather and prepare and seeing the phantom 3 just magically does everything a tbs discovery pro with long range for half the price, it was a no brainer to dump the F550 on eBay and get this bad boy. Thank god i had one of the good apples LOL

1.1.8 is great.  I have stayed with it because everything works perfectly.  Hopefully it will work with the go app if that is what your on now.  I stuck with the pilot app 1.1.1.

It did work with the Go App. 2.2.whatever... But, I went ahead and updated to the newest firmware and will see how that goes..

good to know that the upgrade went through.  Did you have to do the 1.3.2 first and then the 1.4.1?

Yep, had to because the RC firmware. 1.3.2 has it but 1.4.1 does not have the RC firmware but requires it be 1.3.2 to be installed first. All the original firmware was 1.1.8.... Now lets hope I don't have the 'left turn Clyde' problems others are having where after update to 1.4.1 the quad veers left as you try to fly strait forward.

I received my Phantom 3 advanced about 2 weeks ago with FW 1.1.8 also and updated to every FW version all the way up to the newest on that first night and have had no problems at all. I had also worried about getting such an "older model."  You said something about it having the older motors, how do you tell and what is it about the motors?  Of all the stuff I have read I've never come across anything about the motors?  Thanks

You've got me there cant hear a thing

thats sad, i would be highly perturbed if i paid for a new phantom, got a defective one, went through the hoops then got one that was old.  I dont care if they are the same.  I paid for newer, give me newer.  

Also, i bet they dont even extend your warranty for the 2 months you didnt have the drone.

Well, if I have any more issues like shell cracks or firmware problems I'm done with DJI!

I feel your pain.

I would do all the upgrades, because this is the proper way, to have a craft with the newest updates and working like it should do. If not, send e-mails, write to forums and hopefully someone will hear !!!

I hope it turns out good for you and do not have issues no more !!!

Thanks for the articles. Well after looking at the pics in those two articles I have the new motors. Apparently they must ship new and old versions with 1.1.8 or something, IDK.... As far as the cracking around the motor screws, i had read about that prior to getting my P3A and just loosened the screws and retightened not as tight before flying for the first time. When I was doing that I could tell that some of them were really tight and some not so much so I'm really glad I had done my research as I was waiting for my P3A to come in the mail.
