Hi,
do you recommend a fixed ND filter or a variable VND filter for the Pocket 3?
Is there a good filter that allows the Pocket 3 to close without difficulty?
Thanks

I bought fixed ND filters originally but switched to the Neewer variable ND filters. I keep the ND 2-32 on there most of the time during the day. I honestly just got tired of swapping them out and hoping I picked the right one for the lighting situation. After a while, you get pretty good at guessing what you need, but it's still not always easy. It's not like I'm doing professional look, but the image quality through the VND filter looks fine.

Also, the OP3 will close normally with the Neewer VND filter attached. I have the DJI ND filter set and it will not close normally with those attached.

I thank you so much for your advice. OUT OF CURIOSITY: is it possible to buy only  variable ND 2-32? I will use that one mostly.

It looks like it's possible to buy it on its own from Amazon.

Many thanks for your kind info.
I would like to post what I read on the Italian Amazon feedbacks.
I read many positive notes and 2 negative notes.
I read this:
1) Osmo Pocket 3 can no longer close and gets stuck.
2) Difficult to adjust due to its size and location of the filter
What do you think about these 2 negative notes?
It seems incredible to me that some people can't close Pocket 3 with the same filter.
Thanks again.

Mine seems to close fine when I use it (I posted a link to a video below). I will say that it is a little difficult to adjust the intensity of the ND filter because you sort of just have to get your fingernails in the teeth of the outer ring to adjust it. But it's not that bad. Not perfect, but it's not that bad. It's just very small so it requires a little bit of dexterity to adjust it.

What's the quality like of the Neewer VND,  most of the VND reviews so far Ive seen have been pretty bad for other brands.

Especially I read that it is very difficult to adjust due to its size and location of the filter, when the VND filter is mounted on the lens.
Can anyone tell me something about this?
Thanks

Sorry I've been tied up with holiday obligations. I'll post another video soon showing the filter off a little more while talking about it. I'll say it doesn't feel like highest quality thing, but I'll show it within the next day or two. Maybe tonight if I get home at a reasonable time.

DAFys,
Neewer VND filter is new and  who is using it says it is better than the K&F Concept VND filter.
This is why I am informing myself.

jr19,
I would like to ask you one last question after your experience with a VND filter:
if you had to buy an ND filter again, would you buy a VND filter again or would you buy a fixed ND filter?

I've made over 50 videos with these filters.  They close easily, no color shifts or vignetting.  I prefer fixed over VND for the pocket.

I'd buy a VND filter again just for the convenience factor. I did create a short video showing off the filter a bit and talking about it. Not sure if it will be helpful for anyone but here it is.

Hi, thanks for your interesting video.
I hope you answer my stupid question. On a summer day, so with the sun, does it make sense to put an ND filter on the Pocket 3 lens if I let it work everything in automatic (AUTO shutter speed, exposure and ISO)?
I would like to know your opinion,
Thanks

I think if you're shooting full auto, you probably don't need an ND filter.

Thanks for your suggestion.
A last question please, because I would like to understand well.
Don't you think that by making the Pocket 3 work in FULL AUTO but with an ND filter, you can get better clips?
I think that the Pocket 3 with an ND filter does not close the aperture so much or choose a very fast shutter speed that can deteriorate the image of the clip a little. With an ND filter and FULL AUTO all this would not happen.
Maybe I'm wrong?:

If you shoot all auto, I would not use ND filters.
They might do more harm than good to your video.
And judging by the amount of questions you are asking I would say : Don't buy them until you have realized you need them.
They are not magically making your video better and they can cause more issues if you put them on but don't need them.
First buy the Pocket 3 and use it a lot. You'll know you need them when you need them.
There is a lot of fuzz about ND filters, but they are not that important until you have mastered everything else regarding operating a camera (not just the tech stuff, but also composition, storytelling using movement to tell a story, etc. etc. )
ND filters are (IMHO) for the last 5%, not something you have to start with.

I understand you, I understand your reply and I thank you.
But you didn't answer my question. I do an example in general.
If you use a camera in FULL AUTO in full sun in Africa without an ND filter, then the camera automatically chooses an aperture of f16 or f22 and a shutter speed of 1/1000. The clips will be degraded in those conditions. But if you put a filter on the lens, the camera will choose f5.6 or f8 and the shutter speed will also decrease a lot.
I don't think the clips will be recorded better?
Thanks again.

You still need an ND filter especially if it's very sunny.  Even if it's not the ideal ND filter it'll help you keep the SS speed down.
