Hello,
today I flew my Phantom 3 Advanced up to 800 m when, the video link before and then the RC link are lost.

When it happened the P3A was 120 m high. After a few  minute (or may be the press of the button) the drone triggered the procdure RTH.

I was surprised when I noticed that the drone was not lowered to 50 m as set DJI GO... but it returned maintaining the 120 m in height.

This means that if I was down it would not have risen to 50m and I would crush into surrounding trees?

Any other experience?

Thank you in advance.

Simone.

I could be wrong, but the RTH height will go to the height set IF your Phantom is lower than that RTH height.
Since it's already higher (120m), at least what I think, it will come back at that height.

If you were lower than the 50m you had RTH set at, it would climb to the 50m before returning to home.
Because you  were higher than the 50m it returns to home at whatever altitude you are flying at at the time you initiate RTH ( if it is above the 50m)
120 m in your case ....

I guess the important point is that if the drone is already higher than the RTH height you set, it does not waste battery power coming down to that altitude, and that is a GOOD thing.

No ... If your Phantom is below RTH height, it will climb to RTH height and come home.
If it is above RTH height, it will just cone home at the height it is already at.

It's a good feature to have.

when i first started flying my P3P. I had my RTH hight set to about 200 feet and one day i forgot to set the height to about 300 feet because i flew over a structure that was about 270 feet.  anyway, i flew out and was about 300 feet in altitude and lost the signal.  i started to panic because i forgot to set the RTH height higher and i thought it would lower itself to the 200 ft altitude that i had it set for, but DJI figured that if you're higher than the set RTH height, it must be for a good reason,  so if you're higher than your set RTH height, it will return at that higher height that you're flying at.

...and I sure am glad they designed it that way!
