I just bought (and crashed already!) my first drone.  I purchased the PV2+ from the Aerial Media booth down in LA.

I really don't know much about drones and did not realize that the PV2+ had different versions - and the guys at the booth certainly did not mention anything about it.  They told me this was the latest "Phantom".

Anyway while watching different videos, I noticed some of the RCs had gimbal controls, some have a wheel on the upper left and some have a lever (I think) on the back of the RC.  Mine has neither one.

Am I missing something?  

You most likely have the version 2....Version 3 has the wheel, shielded compass, better motors, high thrust props ect...

have a look at the serial number on the phantom itself. it should have the version number after the serial number

label sticker on box will show if it is ver. 3.  If it doesn't say, it's not.

Earlier version don't specify, newest version is on the box.

Had fun and I am getting better, but I do wish the guys at Aerial Media would have told me that I wasn't getting the latest.  I feel that they weren't exactly honest with me.

I would like the RC with the gimbal wheel on the upper left.  Is my V2 a 5.8 Ghz Quad?  Dji has the new RC for  $99

It's a 5.8 Ghz.  I just received my new RC about 1 week ago.  It works GREAT!

How difficult is it to sync the new RC to the Quad?

And do I need to worry about the wifi extender?

Where is the best place to get one?

I ordered the new upgraded transmitter from the DJI store here,  Binding takes about 30 seconds and you don't need to do a thing with range extender.
