I just bought a 32GB micro SD card exactly like the 8GB that cam with my P3S.  However, when I insert the card and turn on my Phantom, the Go app gives me an error message saying it cannot initialize the new card?

Please confirm your the transmission speed of your SD card is Class 6 or above . And try format your SD card to FAT 32 on the computer . It might be a compatible problem .

I'm afraid formatting on my computer didn't help either.  I must have a bad card.... although it works fine if I save data to it on my computer.

i have a 64 gb card that will not format.  i checked the interwebs and found a program called SD card formatter.  it does not format it either.  i think that there are just bad cards sometimes.

Has the card been formatted?

Try the card in a reader and check it and see what else is on it. Reformat the card through he GO Program. Let us know how you make out.

I tired, but it says format fails.  I just bought another 32GB card (Sandisck)  It is the exact same card, just more memory and again it would not work.

Please try to format the sd card on your computer if the format by app is failed. Choose format unit to 32KB and FAT 32 format. Does the other SD card works fine?

Thanks.  I tried that with no luck.  I have now purchased a second 32GB card (exact same specs as the 8 gig that came with it) and have the same issue.  Any other thoughts?  Thanks for your help.

What brand is the card. Is it a a card from Ebay or similar?

I have a Lexar 64GB Class 10 and a Sandisk 64 XC Class 10, both format to exFat without issues.


Try this on your PC:


1. Put card in PC. (Assuming Windows XP, 7, 8, Windows 10).
2. Open Command Prompt *as Admin*.
3. Type diskpart
4. Hit Enter.
5. Type list disk
6. Hit Enter.
7. type select disk #

Where the # is your SDCARD.

8. Press Enter.
9. Type clean
10. Press Enter.

Open Administrative Tools from Control Panel in Windows. Navigate to Disk Management -> Storage. Right click on your SDCARD blank partition and create a new partition. Format as Fat32 if possible. If not, use EXFAT.

Once Done, put the .bin back on the SDCARD. Try the update again.

Did the original 8G SD card work well? If the original 8G SD card works well, then there is no problem on the gimbal SD card slot.

Then it must be the compatibility of the SD card, I recommend the following SD card for you:
1）        Lexar 633X Class10 16GB MicroSDHC UHS-I
2）        Panasonic 16GB MicroSDHC UHS-3
3）        Sandisk Extreme 16GB MicroSDHC UHS-3
These three are fully tested and should be no problem if it's not fake.

I got the same problem. Sandisk 32GB Class 10 UHS1 card. Is not recognized by the phantom. Original card works perfectly fine. Got from Amazon.

My card turned out to be fake. I bought another and it works fine. The SanDisk card came in a packaging that could be easily ripped open by hand (fake), but the new card packaging could only be opened by scissors (genuine).

Yes, I ended up buying another Sandisk 64GB card it it works fine.... Not sure why but I'm in business now.

Same here, I tried 3 brand new SanDisk 16, 32 & 64 GB micro SD class 10 cards and no luck either.  Formatted on a PC using various tools, used prior tip to use disk manager and still no ability to use/format on the Phantom 3 Standard.  They work fine in a PC and/or Mac, but no joy on the p3.  

I've ordered some kingston cards as those seem to be working fine for some reason.  The SanDisk are normally very good...looking forward if anyone finds a solution or workaround. I'll post if I discover anything too.

Interesting....mine were all purchased via Amazon and the packaging could be opened by hand.  Can you post a photo of the legitimate packaging?  That may help others identify.

Just got my Lexar 1800x 64G and rushed off to do a job - on site the GO ap wouldn't format it... tried insert in and out - still no go... lucky I have a supply of 32G Lexar 1000x what the heck... works fine in my computer no read/write props at all --- what to do??? return for replace and have same issue??? switch to SanDisk (always had luck with those) - but I liked the idea of 1800x

There have been a fair number cof reports of Lexar cards not working lately, the only advice I have is to use a Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro, never had one of them fail.

I am new to drones. I have a new P4A. It arrived with a 16 g micro sd card in drone, and a package of 2 new 64gb micro sd cards with readers. My question is: Can I remove the sd card in the drone now, insert the larger sd card and will the card format automatically when I turn the controller and drone on? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can insert one of the new cards, but you must manually format the card. Switch on the whole system and go into camera settings and you will find the format menu item. The card is not automatically formatted, that could be disastrous.
