Just relaeased by the FAA. All Quads over one half pound must be registered. Registration starts December 21, 2015. Fee is $5.oo. An operator will receive one registration number to use and the registration must be on your person when flying.

Just to be sure, since I have two birds, I'll have the numbers tattooed on my forehead.

The way that I understand the registration is that it is more like a license in that you will receive one number and use that number on all of your Quads. In the beginning it was unclear as to which way they would go in that you could either register each one or the one number for all. The one number for all makes more sense as they would be bogged down with registering each and every one. Also in the beginning there would be no fee. Now it is $5.oo for each registration.

Registration waived for the first 30 days per media.  C'mon, FAA, tell us what happens when we sell a drone.  Huh?  Talk to us.

The FAA website says that they will charge a $5 fee but it will be refunded immediately.   This is only for the first month or so, and they are doing that for additional confirmation of the person registering.  ThEither FAA is trying to encourage registration, so it is initially free.  Renewal is every 3 years.

Will the FAA be issuing a rules and regulations document to those who register their drones. If they don't, how do we know what they are trying to enforce.
