Thankfully when this happened, my standard was only like 120 meters away, I could still see it. I manually brought it back home. What do I do if this happened if it was far away?

I had to restart my drone and console after I landed my drone, in order to fly again. (I am flying in the neighborhood of San Jose)

Scary ain't it? Return to home should enact when you lose signal.  

Can you elaborate what caused this? Tablet/phone die?

My phone was still on, it just suddenly disconnected out of the blues and it was not even far away.
Im really considering returning this for advanced model lol. I bought this yesterday

What phone are you using, I had a lot of disconnects when I first got my Standard , thought it was the drone but it was a setting in my phone that forces it to stay connected to WiFi with no internet connect. otherwise I kept losing WiFi connection.

I am using iphone 6s plus with latest IOS and latest firmware update for the drone

it does return home when you lose aircraft remote control signal.

it does not when you simply lose video connection signal,
video signal not as long range as RC control range

if concerned,  at that point you CAN manually enact RTH via the RC

thus why it is suggested to fly vlos.

I would return it now! Get The advanced for $799 and if your a student you get 10% off on the DJI Website! It's a no brainer!!!!

I flew mine a little over .66 miles tonight, lost signal, it returned to home by itself.
