Hi there,

Was out for the first time yesterday evening, looking to get some night shots. Came home and checked the footage, strange! I’m having a hard time explaining so Ill just post a picture of the effect that looks like a "compression vignette", a new word I just invented! It’s a brighter slightly bluish area around the lens edges with jagged compression edges. I lifted the gamma in the footage to about 1.4 but it is visible in the original recording as well.

It was very cold, around -15 Celcius(5 degrees Fahrenheit) so I’m wondering If that may have any impact on the lens acclimatisation. I took the inspire right out of a warm car and flew within a few minutes.

Have any of you experienced similar situation with your footage?

Recording specs:

UHD

25fps

DJI X5 15mm, F/1.7 Lens

F/2.0

ISO 200

regards
Mikael

HA! Saw this some months ago and posted it I guess, but I really sent it to DJI Support mail. Never get an answer on it. Glad I'm not the only one!

@Tim, please can you make some pressure. I really can't wait any longer. It's now over 3 months with game breaking issues in every firmware. God damned!
-Unsharp image
-Broken D-Log profile
-Gimbal drifting
-This problem here
-Artefacts with ISO 100
-Strong noise
-Flickering in high details
-Vertical flickering in some situations
-Still no peaking on android
etc...

Please do something. PLEASE. I'll love you if you can do something.

Otherwise I'll want the money back for the whole stuff. I have the I1Pro now for 3 months and still there are huge problems in every firmware. Thats not acceptable, sorry.

Thank you!

Took the X5 and the Inspire1 out for some filming today. Experienced severe problems with the X5 camera. Artifacts and the overall image quality of the X5 video was just poor. It’s simply not good enough. I want to return the X5, I can’t use it in my line of work? How do I go about returning It to you at DJI, will you accept it? Or can you promise an update that actually will fix the X5 camera problems?

I have attached a few native H264 4K clips from the X5 here to show you whats going on.

Camera settings:

Lens: DJI MFT 15mm f/1.7 @f6
Resolution: UHD 30fps
Shutter: 160
ISO: 100
Color: LOG
Style: Standard
White balance: Cloudy
Encoding: 59.97 mbits/s

DJI support(or just any DJI representative), please respond. Please show us In the community some respect.

insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test1 (severe problems in the shadows(noise, posterisation, encoding artefacts and so on)
insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test1

insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test2 (severe posterising in the shadows inside the silo, details are completely destroyed. My old iPhone5 does a better job)
insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test2

insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test3
(compression problems, probably due to to much information for the 60mbit codec to handle. fine details etc)
insp1_X5_4K_30fps_ISO100_test3

I believe the provided examples clearly shows that this Semi Pro X5 Camera does not deliver what it should be able to. Its not acceptable, I’m just so disappointed.

DJI, If you were me, what would you do?

regards
Mike

Thank you for providing full information, we've just checked it with our camera specialist... Not the best result though, your unit needs to be sent back to DJI. please contact your local DJI Support center to get the repair. Thank you!

Though, I’m pretty sure that this is not a faulty unit. To me it looks like compression problems, the bitrate is not high enough to take care of the details represented in the image when tilting and panning. The problem can be somewhat solved by lowering sharpness in the settings, but I don’t want that. Any setting used in the camera (from LUT to General settings such as sharpness and contrast) need to be handled within the limits of the H264 codec. This is H264 compression in real-time so it needs a higher bitrate to be able to get the details right. When setting the sharpness to +2 the H264 codec totally flips out and can’t handle the details. In my opinion this is not how is should work and you need to address this.

I will send in my X5 camera, but I’m not having any high hopes. I believe this suggestion (send it in for replace/repair) is more of a standard answer from DJI rather than answering to the real questions regarding the X5 bottlenecks. Its a very expensive camera (compared to other Micro 4/3 with 4K rec) with some pretty devastating limitations set in firmware.

Mike

I have this blue ring also on the standard DJI lense. On my new olympus I dont have this blue ring. I think the DJI lense has some problems here.
Can I send back only the lense? This noise is only with ISO100.

Try ISO200, then it should be fine. (As workaround)

Thanks for the tips, ill try ISO200! Sounds like it could be fixed in future FW update then. But Im having a hard time believing that the ISO100 setting makes the lens create this blue ring effect.. but Im no technician.

DJI Inspire FW which list :
DJI stop adding unnecessary "cool new" features and concentrate on improving the quality of the features already implemented.
