Has anyone tried the iPad Mini 4 on follow me mode and did it work?

Follow Me only works with the "cellular" capable  Ipads so it must be the cellular version OR have  a wifi connection close by to your Ipad Mini.    I know cause I tried my Ipad Mini 4 Wifi and it didn't work.  I even tried to use my phone as a hotspot and connect my Ipad Mini to it.  Laggy and couldn't acquire enough satellites to do Follow Me.. Went out and bought an Ipad Air Cellular (don't have to enable the cellular service) and it works....
