I am just wondering why the mount plate that holds te gimble and camera has 4 holes in it for the clear plastic pegs but only 2 pegs are inserted and there are 2 spares in the box? Is it extras in case you break them or extras for if you need more support or something?

The four holes are designed for the rubber vibration dampeners. The two plastic pins are placed diagonally as gimbal retainers in case of a hard landing. The gimbal is designed to only require and use two retainers. DJI includes a complete replacement set of four rubber dampeners and two retainer pins in case you ever need to replace them.

It is all about striking a balance with vibration dampening and connection of the gimbal.  You want the gimbal not to up and fall off, but at the same time too much stability and the camera quality would suffer, therefore only 2 of the clear plastic anti drop pegs are installed.
