Hi DJI-KEN -

Can you confirm the phantom 4 can still go max 500m? I just noticed on the specs page (which wasn't available when I ordered) - that it NOW says "max 400 FEET" above take off?
Can you confirm that is just the 'default' - but I can still override it to go 500m (roughly 1500 feet?)

Thanks!

Wonder why this question hasnt been answered, its been asked in several posts but seemed to be overlooked.  I think this is a serious question that could be a deciding factor in purchasing or not

Give them a chance to do some checking. The P4 is most likely new to them also.

The Phantom 3 currently is supposed to be able to go 1640 feet  in altitude from take off point. How long before they push out a firmware update to restrict it to 400 feet like the Phantom 4?

Yes and why 400ft - this new bird can see obstacals so if the 747 is in front of him.....he just avoid the kiss!
Sorry bad joke!

400ft is fine for me but i am living in flat Nederlands (-8 under see level)

TIP to DJI communicate if you change the P3 firmware with the new 400ft restriction.

From DJI site, so its the same as P3

BEGINNER MODE

The Phantom 4’s beginner mode limits Beginner flyers to 100ft (30m) up and away. It also prevents camera tilt controls to allow beginner pilots to familiarize themselves with flying before adding more distance and camera control. When beginner mode is switched off, the Phantom 4 will default to a maximum flight altitude of 390ft (120m) above the takeoff point. This can be adjusted to a maximum of 1640ft (500m). You can also set your own maximum distance.

I'm sorry I was given different information earlier,
The max altitude is indeed 500m from take off point.

I would hold off on any firmware updates until we see what type height people are getting, if 400 ft then DJI will roll out a firmware to hit the P3s,  lets hope the confusion is worked out soon.

I'm betting not all employees were privy to the specifications until release time.

I spend a lot of time in Utah. There are lots of deep canyons. If I am on on the edge of a canyon and it is 600'
deep, what will happen when I want to fly my drone over the edge and  down into the canyon from the upper edge. Can I fly it to the bottom and  then back up to land on the top. A second question, if I am in the  bottom of a canyon and it is 600' to the top, can I only fly to 400'  from the bottom of the canyon?

I may have already posted this. I don't completely understand how this forum works. If I messed up, I apologize.

Yep that would mean most of your flight will be at negative altitude relative to your take-off point and there's no negative limitations

Allegedly...With the P3 you can go above 500m by holding down the RTH button. I haven't tried it, saw it on a YouTube video
