DJI Phantom 4

US Price $1399

Australia Price $2399..... the equivalent is US $1750

Even with the Currency Conversion that’s still ......Au $500 more????

Asia, ..........where these things are made, is well over 2000 km closer to Australia then the US.

Im just fed up of being ripped off constantly in Australia.

P4 looks great and I would get one at the US price, but not at the Au price.
Why can't it be the same price for everyone, give or take a $ or 2 ????

Winge over!

It cheaper for the people in the U.S. Because they sell hundreds of thousands of drone over here, Australia ? They might sell maybe 6 or 10 units down there. Australia is just a big desert.

Taking a quick look - I'm guessing it might have to do with import duties & taxes. DJI makes it 'simple' so you don't have to worry about paying customs, shipping, etc when you receive the unit (so you just pay 'one' price hassle free) - and comparing a few different countries with customs/duties calculators - it looks likes Australia is more expensive than some. So that is probably where the extra price is going.

Its more expensive because they need to install an upside down compass and make the phantoms right-hand side drive by inversing the remote.
Its also more dangerous delivering to Australia. Australia has the most deadliest animals in the world and sometimes people die doing deliveries. I've seen what drop bears do to FedEx couriers

At $2400aud, I think its cheaper to fly to China and purchase directly from DJI.

What's worse in Aus is also the lack of support. Everything needs to be shipped back.

Ya but its still a bargain considering what it can do.  Paid the same for my Sony A7 camera.
Hopefully mine show up in April.  Order from China, save the GST.

The only tax would be 10% GST and no import duty.

No, there are no duties or other hidden fees, we simply pay a 10% tax for any imported item worth more than A$1K.

It is not as bad as it seems, our OP was way too optimistic on his currency conversion. US$1399 translates to A$1897, add to that a GST of A$189.70 and the price becomes A$2086. Then factor in the 'Free Shipping' (which isn't free) at about A$80 and it comes to A$2166. So it is only a A$233 rip off.

We are used to this sort of price gauging, Apple in Australia is a master at it.

Phantom 3 is still good enough but I love those new features avoid obstacles so that I not flight in the trees and just focus on my filming.

Yes, that would work, until you had to call on warranty repair. Then you wouild be up Shite Creek in a barbwire canoe without a paddle.

Yeah, good old Australian premium. What bugs me more is the fact Apple Australia don't sell batteries yet.

If the item + shipping is worth more than A$1000, customs will want to hit you for 10% and possibly a little extra.
