I am sure there are a million posts on this already but you can't make a product that is not ready to fly out of the box while claiming it can.

This is America jack.  We have rules here and bodies that answer to governing bodies and when they don't act on their promises commercialy, they get lots and lots of penalties, and then they eventually get shut down.

PRETTY PLEASE.  Make your birds ready to fly. I am not into growning finches. ;)

Thanks

Adam -

Are you saying that (1) you have a P4 ahead of the release date (if so, congrats!), but (ii) it won't fly?  If so, what is the issue?

You arrogant twit. What are you going to do, whip out a lawyer or a gun? DJI said it will be released on the 15th. If you have yours already, then you shouldn't have, suck it up.

Blaming consumers for walking into a retail store and buying a product for sale on the shelf for getting the product too early is ridiculous.  Most people aren't going to read forums like this before they buy things.  And I seriously doubt that Apple violated its distribution agreement with DJI.  Why would they want the legal and customer service headaches?  Consider how many calls or store visits they will field from customers who are frustrated they can't use their purchases yet?  If they are selling them now, DJI likely did not contractually embargo them from doing so, which is 100% on DJI.  Ultimately, unless it is shown that Apple specifically violated its contract, it is entirely DJI's responsibility if consumers are getting their hands on these products before DJI is ready to support them with software and instructions.  If it is shown Apple violated its contract, then shame on Apple.  But I'm laying odds they didn't.

Actually I think they did violate the agreement. It was individual stores, not Apple itself that sold them early. They were not to sell it until the release date on the 15th. Don't blame DJI for that one.

He probably really has a P4, I've seen unboxing vids from people who got them early from Apple Stores, and yes, no app support yet. I still don't blame DJI for that, the release date is the 15th. That screwup is on Apple and I'm sure DJI will get the app into the store on time, after all, its available in EU.

I wish I would have read this before posting my last thread.

This is exactly my point.  Apple knows what they are doing and DJI is from another culture in an emerging market.  No hate at DJI, just being real.

For the record, I personally never accused anyone of breaking any laws exactly, nor did I say an agreement was made.

I tend to agree with the poster who said there was one but there was probably a legal issue that was cultural that got in the way.

Asian business culture and American business culture are two VERY VERY different things.

Mainly because one is fake capitalism in fake democracy and the other is real socialism in a place where it's the second highest (soon to be highest) GDP with an average of just under $9000 A YEAR as the middle class.
The average Chinese household would cost more than 1/10th their yearly salary for a P4.  That said, the P4 is cheaper there. But still.

Which is why there is no way Apple would have done it on purpose -- they deal in a scale of sales for which these drone sales are not even a rounding error for them so why risk it?  Of course someone at Apple may have made a mistake.  These things start out as contracts and corporate and they have to have a system of distribution to stores that comes with instructions on how to handle the product -- when to release it, where to display it, etc.  It's certainly possible someone messed up and didn't fill in the field with the embargo date.  But it's also highly possible that someone at DJI failed to include it in the contract.  Not sure we'll ever know.
