Hello,
I had a minor crash with my drone last week as I was a little over confident. Evidently my phantom came off worse than the tree as now when I shoot video with it, it appears wavey and shakey as if underwater. I never noticed this before the crash so am assuming it must have been caused by this.  I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as what was causing this and how to fix it? I've uploaded a video of this so you can see as im having trouble explining it..

Thanks

Michael

I had the same thing happen the other night. A minor bump and now the gimbal shakes and causes the waves in the video. I have not been able to figure it out yet.

Just a tip, no-one really wants to download your video to look at it, please put it on YouTube or similar and post a link to it.

Can you try hovering low down just in front of you and see if the aircraft or the camera is shaking ?

This is not uncommon after a crash.   Something got unbalanced.  Like Geebax suggests, the first thing is to hover just in front of you and watch the bird.  Does the entire frame shake?  If so, then you probably have to send it in to replace a motor (happened to me).  If the frame does not shake, look at the gimbal - anything not working / loose / broken.  Pay special attention to the connectors.

Michael ,   Was there any damage to the Props\ Motors  when you crashed?  Be sure to replace all your props and make sure none of the motor or motor  mounts are cracked. look specifically  for cracks  and any loose motor screws on the  bottom of the motor  mount areas  .  Look closely at the runout of the blades .  If you ever flew model helicopters this was common practice to see which blade was slightly pitched  higheer than the other.  In your case just get it up to Eye level ( just be back about 3 or 4 feet ,   in a hover or even while on the ground  and with safety glasses look for one of those motors shaking or blades out of alignment  .  With the amount of vibration, If one is bad it should be easy to spot . Make sure none of the plastic gimbal  ball  camera mounts is not ripped as well .  This is a pretty severe vibration and my money would be on one of the motors being damaged from the crash, it does not take much to bend the Main shaft of the Electric motor or one of it components and the props, be sure to replace them as well .   I would focus on what ever ares were damaged from the crash and look closely to these areas.  Hope this helps. Be sure to do the IMU and Camera calibrations after a crash as well as the compass for sure.  I dont think that this is causing your vibration ( Pretty severe)   but it is good procedure regardless after a crash .

Also listen for unusual noises from the Gimbal  motors, with the aircraft on but props off just take and pitch the aircraft around, see if you hear a buzzing or something out of sorts, yaw the aircraft as well, once again listening to one of the motors giving a strange noise or grind . Just do normal movements as if the craft was airborn . Make sure no dirt or debris from the crash got into the gimbal motors, blow them out gently with computer sprayers or compressed air,Only do this if dirt could have  gotten lodged in there from the crash. Also simply listen intently while the camera is doing the start up dance for any thing that sounds goofy.

I would once again concentrate on areas that were damaged in the crash and work my way out from there.

Let me lnow what you find out, I am curious

Which model specifically is this ( sorry if I missed it )

Good luck - donnie

I had similar image shaking on a couple of flights, but more pronounced ... nothing wrong with the bird or gimbal ... I'd forgotten to remove the foam packing piece from the back of the gimbal

Hi guys thank you all so much for your replies. I really appreciate it. You have really helped me out. Donnie its a phantom 3 standard.
I've followed your advice and can't see any damage or cracks. No odd noises from motor. She is not noticeably shaking while hovering in front of me. Only thing I noticed is a strange noise from gamble when I turn it on its side.

I've swapped all the propellers and the plastic and rubber bits holding the bottom of the gamble on and this seems to have resolved all of the shaking. Thank you for your advice its 100 times better now.

However the watery image is still present at times. It occurs throughout the video below but specifically at 0.40, 1.04, 2.04, 2.54. I'm unsure what to do about this?

I posted yesterday asking forum for help as after a crash my camera did the dance and refused to face forwards, called DJI help they suggest the IMU and Gimbal calibration to resolve it, this didn't work. So they suggested replacing camera/gimbal unit and/or getting it repaired by specialists (who wanted £20+ just to appraise issue).... Anyhow. I found my solution and yours it appears on this forum http://www.phantompilots.com/thr ... to-the-right.45955/

basically there is a small screw on the gimbal that when comes lose causes all the issues. Believe it or not, when I tightened the screw it fixed itself, did quick gimbal calibration to make sure and now all is fine.

Hi tom,
Thanks for your reply.
Ive read through the post and at the risk of sounding very dense, i dont understand what to do. What do they mean flat to the shaft? Am i just meant to tighten the screw as far as it will go? My screw is currently recessed in the hole and not sticking out.

Thanks for your help
