I tried everything from using different computers (Mac, Windows) to download the FW, used different SD cards, formatted them on different computers & in the I1 - nothing changed

Any idea before I'm going to contact the support?

Thanks in advance,
Guido

Please reformat the card in fat32 and try again. I would also try another unzipping program as well.
The camera is reading the file but it's failing CRC verifacation. The file is being corrupted somewhere along the line, either during extraction or transfer.

Firmware checksum failed.

Go get another SD card make sure it is within specs.  Try again. Make sure you are getting the file from the Inspire 1 and not for the pro or the X5 camera.  I had another fellow in Germany with similar problem Purchased a New SD card and it worked.  Make sure you are Not Formatting the card with a MAC device use a PC or the Aircraft itself.
I would format the new card  on the Aircraft and I bet it solves the problem.
I know it sounds strange, maybe try a different brand SD  CARD   ( I USE SAMSUNG WITH GOOD RESULTS )  the last fellow from Germany thought I was crazy also.  BUT IT WORKED
I WOULD ALSO CHANGE THE ADAPTER THAT YOU ARE USING FOR THE SD CARD, JUST BUY OR BORROW ANOTHER ONE.  THERE IS THE PROBLEM

Also I would download the file from a different computer as well.  I am sure a friend must have a PC.  Please just try it again using the recommendations, I bet it will work

Try it again please.

Thanks for trying to help but this is a quote from my original post:

So, everything you suggested already tried without solving the problem. Maybe it's a hardware problem with the reader inside the X3...

What are you using as the adapter for the sd card?  I would change that  for sure.

You are correct, the camera itself may be bad, we are just exhausting all other possibilities so you dont have to send in for repair.

What are you using as the adapter for the SD card ?

You may be right and there is no fix.

Also that was DJI that posted above mine.  You are not going to get much help from DJI without sending it in.  Also make sure the contacts between the Camera and the Gimbal are clean and tight.   Do you remove the camera quite a bit ? If so it can bend the Pins.  Just check it.
Sorry you are having trouble,  I did give some new data: Dont use MAC  buy NEW SD card,  Replace adapter for SD card , Check contacts, Dont use a MAC, double check file source, did i mention dont use a MAC ?

Well then the only other option is to send in the bird. But  as Donnie posted you should give it a few more tried with the suggested methods.

Thanks for all your support. I've ordered a new SD card (a Sandisk) and will try to download the firmware again here at my Windows 7 PC at work. Can someone please do me a favour and calculate a CRC-32 checksum or a MD5 hash from the bin file (not the zip archive) he downloaded? Just want to be sure the file itself is not modified on it's way onto the SD card. Thanks!

If nothing works I'll have to contact DJI, though the long processing times let me shiver already...

Thanks again!

Hey Donnie,

sorry for the late reply. Thanks a lot for your efforts, it seems as if there is indeed a problem with the bird since I can successfully downgrade from V1.6.0.40 (which is the FW currently on the I1) to V1.5.0.30 and then upgrade to V1.6.0.40 again. But the I1 won't let me upgrade any further, starting with V1.7.0.90 the problem described appears. Have contacted DJI support already, let's see what they suggest.

Thanks again!

Update, 16/04/19:
Got feedback from DJI Europe support. The X3 has to be sent in and will be exchanged since it is indeed a hardware problem. With the I1 being 14 months old now it will be interesting what they will be charging...
