I cant understand why the cost of the Phantom 4 is so high for Australian if purchased from DJI direct or purchased in Australia. In the USA the price is $1399 USD which equates to arround $1820 AUD depending on the exchange rate at the time. Because I am an Australian our price is $2399 AUD which is $580 AUD more than the people in USA have to pay.
All supplies come from China so it cant be extra freight costs as Australia is much closer. In Australia we have a 10% GST (tax) which most conteries would have but 10% of the wholesale price would not be $580. Due to the DJI price fixing policy no one will sell it for less than the DJI retail price.

They sell hundreds of thousands of these quads in the United states, theres not many people in the down under so DJI sells maybe 10 or 12 of these p4s so it cost more to ship down there.

Do you have official figures to back that statement up...or is that your own guesstimate?

Here in Canada we pay the US price plus exchange.  (Plus provincial and federal taxes).

I'm guessing that there are some hidden import duties and tariffs  added to the price. (Check with your customs/import authority)  Either that or someone is getting rich.

Nope, you are right, you are being ripped off. But look around and you can get a better price. Shopbot is a good place to use to find the lowest price, at present I can find one at $2375

The problem is DJI won't let their oversea dealers to sell to Australia and most stores in Australia don't have stock with a big backorder list and long wait time. Its quicker for me to purchase from DJI direct.

Well, you will probably regret that, because if anything goes wrong, you will have to deal with DJI for the warranty claim, and there is no fun in that.

I bought my P3 from an Australian company because I wanted a warranty that was enforcable here. That company is not showing the P4, but Kogan is, unfortubnately at the price you mentioned, but they do indicate they have stock: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/dji-phantom-4-dji/

I believe you can still get service in Australia if you purchase from DJI direct. I also have a S1000 and the landing gear died so I sent information to DJI. Once they realised it was a faulty servo motor they sent my information to EEHobies in Victoria who in turn send me the new servo motor assembly.
Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong, my P2 had no issues after two years of uses until I lost it in the ocean by one silly error from me.

Sadly Jeffo, we will pay it so they'll charge it. That's the market. You know we pay more for everything. Also our wages are higher and we don't have Mexican slave labour to underpin our economy and make shipping cheap.

Sadly Jeffo it's all due to taxes and duties that governments negotiated with each other, it's the same here in Ireland we pay 20% more than US, same for Apple products only way around your problem is to travel to China and bring one back with you and have a nice holiday,
You may get a better deal than the Yankees when your trading your P4 for a P5..

Is that a typo Apple is £1229, but with a two week returns policy and 1 year warranty.

Maplins £1229 with a 30 day return policy and a 365 day Replace, refund or credit note policy.

That's about US $1745

and about AU $2295

But here in Europe we pay 20% VAT (Value Added Tax, straight to Government coffers !) on top of import duties etc, with a market of about 500 million, American market 300 million ? So much of it could just be down to market forces, as somebody mentioned we buy it so price will stick.

Feeling your pain as I accumulate funds to try the P4.  I did see it online today at video pro dropped to $2160.  I imagine the strengthening Aussie dollar might be working in our favour ?!?!?!?!?

For the heck of it check an Apple location. They are world wide and they ship world wide.

It's traditional that all tech companies charge ripoff prices for Australian sales.
Look at Apple, Microsoft, Adobe etc.
Even direct download software with zero shipping costs more than the 10% GST extra.

Nothings changed purchasing from down under for over 20 years. We have always been slugged the down under tax for being so far away and having bugger all buying power.

Another example of this is when I purchased a Celestron telescope from the USA for $699 plus $250 shipping a total of $949. The cheapest I could find the same model in Australia was $1699 without shipping costs.

I am an Aussie living  in the Philippines, and saving up for a p4,..am not sure to buy a P4 in Australia when I go back in August or wait and see what happens here.
Am inclined to buy from Apple Store because of the refund/ warranty issue.
Any thoughts?

There are a number of places to buy from in Australia, and all carry an Australian warranty. I would not buy one overseas, as you have almost zero chance of getting it fixed under warranty if anything goes wrong.

Your absolutly rigth. In Europe price: 1590€  in USD 1785 USD and  2 314,81 AUD.

Australia is a small country wth a very small economy, there money's more worthless than Canada's. This is why it costs so much more than if you were using U.S. currency.

I didn't pay any import fees nor taxes when I purchased my P4 in Canada, I paid $1399USD and that was all...Sucks that you cant just buy in USD in Aus...but you guys do still drive roos to work in Aus...dont you???
