I can calibrate my RC sticks using RC assistant but when I connect the RC to PC Assistant the RC will not connect. Should it? and if so what would a step by step be?

You connect and calibrate the remote controller sticks to the RC program. Then you connect the Phantom to the PCs program and you can calibrate the sticks and the thumb wheel ( if you have it ). Download and read the updated manual for your phantom you purchased, It will explain everything there better than I can here.
What I realized is that PC Assistant calibrates the sticks when connected to the phantom via USB, not the RC. The RC is Radio Connected to the Phantom and I am able to see the stick calibration in the software. I thought I had to USB connect the RC to the PC assist and now know I do not.

Kevin,
Just to keep terms straight, it is the Phantom Vision Assistant, not PC Assistant, please read up and familiarize yourself to make it easier to diagnose etc.
Happy flying and thanks for reporting back.
Still I must say I have the same problem with my mac.
Tried it on two different macs, both Yosemite, and on a windows XP machine.
It refuses to connect the PT2 program to the drone. (I use version 3.6)
USB is in the Mac and other side in the drone
As an error message it says: "Please connect to the controller"
Seperately connecting to the controller with the RC program is a piece of cake.
I am thinking some thing may be wrong with my hardware or the cord?
I have tried everything above and can not get 3.8 or even 3.6 to detect the Phantom.
I am also having to rebind the Tx with the Phantom all the time.
Thinking that is a sign of something larger going wrong maybe with my hardware?
Grays,
have you had it connected successfully before?
Have you done any other computer updates?
Double check that the DJI win driver is installed on your PC or reinstall it..
Try a different USB port on your computer, this has worked for some...
If all else fails you may need to check out the USB port on the bird. Could have gotten damaged. Can happen. Replacment harnesses with the minis USB connector are available. Hope it's just then win driver. First try uninstalling the driver and installing a fresh copy.
