Been reading alot about turning off the drones VPS you get longer flying times

Just want to ask before i test turning mine off..

1. Is it safe to fly with it turned off
2. Does the drone use VPS to land or take off
3. What about auto takeoff and autoland

I don't think VPS being turned off saves you any power either.  I think it is on all the time, just not used by the software when it is "off".  Wonder if DJI would clarify.
