Hello. My old remote was broken, so I ordered a new remote. I haven't paired the remote yet.

When I try to update my drone with the new firmware, it is giving me a loud beep beep beep, while I hear a faint d-dd-d, meaning the update is complete.

But, I am getting this from the micro card:

========== 2014.01.01 00:00:07 remo-con disconnect======
Packet: WM610_FW_V01.08.01.00.bin
Result: Abort.
The firmware on the SD card is identical to or older than the current firmware on the device.

Should I pair the remote before completing the firmware update. Not sure what to do first. It will not update until the remote is paired is what I am guessing, but I don't want to update the remote first. I am at in a dilemma what to do.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi AlaskaDrone,
Your SD card is formatted fat32 right?  Also, just as a heads up, you may want to stay with 1.8 for now, as there could potentially be some issues with 1.9.

If the firmware is matched with your aircraft you should link them first.

Before you start the update on the Inspire your remote stays off. you update the remote last and keep the Inspire off while doing so. watch the video for help

First update the aircraft to either 1.8 or 1.9, then update the RC transmitter to 1.6.  Then I would be sure to  pair  the New RC to Aircraft .
MAKE SURE THE RC TRANSMITTER IS OFF WHEN UPDATING THE AIRCRAFT .
Gabe is correct , might want to stay at 1.8 for now . Rich is correct also , once you have the correct versions of firmware  installed , then you will pair the RC and AC .

Always update the Aircraft first .

You will have the impossible task of linking the RC to the Aircraft if they are not on compatible versions. (1.8 OR 1.9 WILL MATCH 1.6 ON THE rc TRANSMITTER )

I would go to 1.8 if you can for now on the Aircraft and update to the next version after 1.9 ( Problems for some on 1.9 and there is not a significant update anyway  )

Do it in the order  that I have listed.  ( SO UPDATE THE RC AND AC FIRST AND THEN PAIR  )

Thank you. I downgraded to the old version until things look better. I have never had a problem since an initial crash right after I bought the drone, which DJI covered.

This update scares me, so I will wait.

Thanks to all for the help and responses.

The strange part about 1.9 is that it had very few changes to anything significant, and no changes to the VPS system which is causing all the problems. I think DJI makes other changes in updating FW versions but only lists the changes that users might experience changes in.

I now am going to wait about 2 weeks ( depending on the update )  before updating to see if any problems arise.  It seems each update brings its own issues and Most pilots have zero problems which makes this so confusing.

Anyway - Use your own gut feeling to make decisions, after all it is your aircraft and you are the pilot.
*****I updated to 1.9 with zero problems and I fly several times a week,
